Competitor comparison

  • No other competitors seem to promote it yet, although some hotels of Serenata Hotels Group (Legendha) feature it on their website.

Pros

  • Interactive activity with attention to detail
  • Local experience with enthusiastic host
  • Always private
  • Easia exclusivity (for now)

Cons

  • Needs an overnight stay in Sukhothai (in case guests want their finished amulet the next day)
  • Subject to weather (humid in the rainy season, hot in the hot season)
  • Needs to be booked well in advance to ensure availability.

Information

  • The only option for lunch is “Sukhothai Noodles,” a noodle-based dish with pork.
  • Since this is the only available dish, make sure to check the guests’ dietary restrictions before including this activity.
  • The firing of amulets takes 1 working day and can be delivered if guests stay overnight in Sukhothai.
  • Sending amulets to guests outside of Sukhothai takes about 2-3 working days; only suitable for guests who stay long enough in Thailand after this activity (postage fee is 200 THB / package, 1 package / 10 pax)
  • Kob, the host, is very passionate and proud. He is only willing to accept guests with a real interest and who are willing to take the time to learn about Sukhothai and its culture. The absolute minimum of time to spend for lunch and workshop will be 2 hours (so no quick stopovers)
  • The activity is at a local house, but it is very clean by local standards and there is attention to many cleanliness and aesthetic details (lunch is served wrapped in banana leaves, bottles and glasses are decorated with banana leaves and bamboo elements, the hosts wear traditional clothes, clay is wrapped in teak leaves, flytraps are placed)
  • Information about the food, snacks, and drinks are given.
  • The activity is always private, regardless of the number of pax. Easia Travel is the only DMC offering it but sometimes Thai, other groups, and students are hosted, as well. Therefore, it needs to be booked as far in advance as possible. (They will not cancel a booking of 1 pax to accept a booking of 20 pax.)

Alerts

  • The only option for lunch is “Sukhothai Noodles,” a noodle-based dish with pork. Since this is the only available dish, make sure to check the guests’ dietary restrictions before including this activity. Not suitable for people who require Vegatarian, Vegan, Muslim, Kosjer, … meal.

Important information

  • The hosts speak only Thai, Easia guide is always required for translation purpose.
  • The setting is a local house, some things to keep in mind:
    • The toilet is Western, but very local and basic.
    • Open-air setting, so there may be some bugs (flies, mosquitoes), causing annoyance or discomfort.
  • For bigger groups, the general interest in history may vary from person to person, so it is mainly recommended for FIT. In case of special interest in culture/history, it could also be suitable for GIT (not so much for Series)
  • Amulet-making alone is possible as an activity as well; eating only the Sukhothai noodle lunch is not possible.
