Day 1: Luang Prabang – Xayaboury – Elephant Conservation Center
After travelling from Luang Prabang you will arrive at Nam Tien pier, then after a short boat trip, you will reach the Center. You will have time to settle into your private bungalow before your guide will take you to the forest and show you the center and its inhabitants. You will discover the resident mother and baby at the nursery, then you will take the boat back to the Center for the hospital visit, where you will meet the Laotian Vet Assistant or Biologist, who will tell you more about common and uncommon injuries and their respective treatments. You will then observe the elephants’ daily bath and learn more about the elephants’ playful characters. After that, you will have the opportunity for some soft interaction with the mahouts by your side. After a short hike in the forest, the mahouts will decide on a place where the elephants can graze for a while. Before dinner, you will have the opportunity to walk in the surroundings, or go for a swim in the lake, take a canoe, or visit the museum of the conservation center.

Day 2:  Elephant Conservation Center – Luang Prabang
Today you will meet up with the elephants in the forest. After spending the night grazing in the jungle, it is time for another bath. Enjoy strolling together with these magnificent creatures in their natural environment. Follow the guide around the perimeter to learn more about the group and its dynamics. Take your time on the different platforms to see how a new herd is being formed. This rare opportunity will bring you closer to their natural life. After some time to relax, you will travel back to Luang Prabang.

  • 2h 30min transfer from Luang Prabang, to then arrive at the boat pier to Elephant Conservation Centre in Xayaboury
  • Elephant Conservation Centre takes around 10 Minutes across the lake. (longer in rainy reason)
  • They do not provide elephant rides, the purpose of a stay at the conservation center is to learn more about elephants and how to protect them.
  • They don’t provide life jackets during the sunset cruise to swim
  • Medical Care of the elephants at the Elephant Hospital is only carried out by qualified vets. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to participate in this activity. Thank you for your understanding.
  • This program starts at 8:00 on day 1 and ends at about 17:00 on day 2. We will pick you up in Luang Prabang and return you to Luang Prabang after lunch on day 2. Accommodation is in a wooden bungalow with shared washing facilities.

Après avoir quitté Luang Prabang vous atteindrez le quai de Nam Tien et arriverez au Centre après un petit trajet en bateau. Vous aurez le temps de vous installer dans votre bungalow privé puis votre guide vous accompagnera dans la forêt pour vous présenter le Centre et ses habitants. Vous découvrirez alors les résidents, une maman et son petit à la nurserie, puis vous reprendrez le bateau pour visiter l’hôpital du Centre où vous rencontrerez l’assistant du vétérinaire ou le biologiste d’origine laotienne qui vous parleront des blessures (des plus banales aux plus exceptionnelles) qu’ils rencontrent sur les éléphants et de leurs traitements respectifs. Vous observerez ensuite le bain quotidien des éléphants et en apprendrez plus sur la personnalité joueuse des éléphants. Après cela, vous aurez l’opportunité d’interagir avec les animaux avec les mahouts à vos côtés. Après une courte marche dans la forêt, les mahouts décideront d’un endroit approprié pour laisser les éléphants paître pendant un moment. Avant le dîner, vous pourrez vous balader dans les alentours, aller nager dans le lac, prendre un canoë ou visiter le musée du Centre de Conservation.

Un veterinario o un biologo vi attenderanno per elencarvi gli infortuni e le lesioni più o meno comuni e le cure più utilizzate. Osserverete poi gli elefanti durante il loro bagno giornaliero, imparando a comprenderne la natura giocosa. Verrà poi il momento della vera e propria interazione, con il mahout al vostro fianco. Passate una mano sulla pelle ruvida e pelosa di uno di questi pachidermi ed osservate la sorprendente destrezza della loro proboscide. Dopo una brave escursione nella foresta, i mahoutssceglieranno la postazione migliore dove gli elefanti potranno fare uno spuntino brucando tra la vegetazione. Prima della cena, potrete fare una passeggiata nei dintorni, fare un tuffo nel lago, saltare a bordo di una canoa o visitare il museo del Centro di conservazione degli Elefanti.

Sie fahren von Luang Prabang zum Nam-Tien-Pier. Nach einer kurzen Bootsfahrt von 10 Minuten kommen Sie am Center an. Sie haben Zeit, sich in Ihrem privaten Bungalow einzurichten, bevor Ihr Reiseleiter Sie zum Wald bringen und Ihnen das Center und seine Bewohner zeigen wird.
Sie werden auf die  dort auf das ansässige Elefantenmuttertier und das Baby im Kindergarten sehen und anschließend mit dem Boot zurück zum Center fahren, um das Krankenhaus zu besichtigen. Dort treffen Sie auf einen laotischen Veterinär-Assistenten oder Biologen, der Ihnen mehr über übliche und weniger übliche Verletzungen und die jeweiligen Behandlungsmethoden erzählt. Danach beobachten Sie Elefanten bei ihrem täglichen Bad und lernen etwas über den verspielten Charakter der Tiere. Nachdem sich die Elefanten selbst gewaschen haben, haben Sie die Möglichkeit, einige sanfte Interaktionen mit einem Mahaut (Elefantenführer) an Ihrer Seite zu versuchen. Fühlen Sie die erstaunliche Haut und die stacheligen Haare und erleben Sie die Gewandtheit des Elefantenrüssels.
Nach einer kurzen Wanderung im Wald werden die Mahauts an einem Platz verweilen, an dem die Elefanten für eine Weile grasen können.
