Located in the North Eastern region of the Champasak Province in southern Laos, the Bolaven Plateau has an altitude ranging between 3380 and 4430 feet. Its name refers to the Lavaens ethnic group, which used to inhabit the region. Nowadays, the Plateau welcomes many ethnic communities, such as Alak, Tahoyor Suay. Enjoying a temperate climate and very fertile soil, the Plateau is renowned for its tea and coffee plantations; the latter considered as one of the finest worldwide. The primary attraction of the Plateau yet remains the many cascades and waterfalls, which make it a prime tourist site in the developing southern region of Laos.
Best time to go (weather): Recommended during the dry season from October to June. In July, August and September, the heavy rain prevents access to many sites
