MYANMAR – Nyang Shwe

The town dates back to the 12th century when the Sao Bwas ruled and controlled the entire rice-growing Nyaung Shwe plains. The old Shan Palace (which was the residence of the first president of Burma) houses much of historical interest including a royal throne as well as numerous photographs. The town’s RatanarMaung Aung temple is also not to be missed with its wonderful collection of religious antiques. The town offers good value accommodation and is a good place to start a bicycle tour around the lake and its surrounding villages
