Phrae is famous for its time-honored neighborhoods of traditional wooden houses, calm and scenic temples, and bright green trees as far as the eye can see. Spared from mass tourism, Phrae offers more of an undiscovered feel than some of the more touristy destinations. It is a charming city of friendly residents, a wander along the banks of Mae Nam Yom and its adjacent ancient wall is always enlightened by the smiling locals, some of Thailand’s friendliest, along with superb food on offer.

Best time to visit: from November to February, the weather is cooler, cool breezes
