VIETNAM – Family – 12 Days / 11 Nights

Day 1: Arrival in Hanoi
Upon arrival you will be welcomed at Hanoi Airport and travel by air-conditioned vehicle to the city and your hotel for check in. The rest of the day will be free at your leisure.

Day 2: Hanoi
In the morning, you will participate in a fun treasure hunt designed to help you explore the Old Quarter of Hanoi as you look for different objects in different places such as markets, temples and typical old Hanoi houses.
In the afternoon continue your discovery of Hanoi with the famous Temple of Literature, also known as the “First University of Vietnam”. After that, climb into a traditional cyclo for a tour of the city’s traditional 36 streets in the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake vicinity with ancient Ngoc Son Temple. Complete your experience of Hanoi in the early evening with a traditional water puppet show perhaps followed by a walk around Hoan Kiem lake.

Day 3: Hanoi
In the morning, you will continue to explore Hanoi with the famous Ethnology Museum where you can learn about the culture and customs of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. You will then go back to the hotel and enjoy free time at your leisure.

Day 4: Hanoi – Halong Bay
In the morning you will leave Hanoi for Halong Bay, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site with its 3,000 islands of towering limestone dotting the bay and Gulf of Tonkin. You will arrive in Halong in the late morning and will board a traditional wooden junk to begin your exploration of magical Halong Bay, one of Southeast Asia’s premier travel destinations.

Day 5: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Hue
If you manage to wake up early enough, you will witness a spectacular dawn over the bay. After a light breakfast you will continue your cruise to view the beauty of the islands that dot the bay. In the later morning you will enjoy a brunch served on board your junk as you will head back to the pier ready to travel to the airport for your onward flight to Hue. On the way, you will make a stop to visit a pagoda.
Upon arrival at Hue Airport, you will be met by our local guide and taken to your hotel.

Day 6: Hue
In the morning, travel by car to visit the Thien Mu pagoda, then board a motor-boat and travel down the Perfume River to Tien Non pier, where your bikes will be waiting. From there, you will set off for a very pleasant bike ride to the village of Sinh, with a stopover in the village of Thanh Tien. The ride is easy, the two villages being only a few kilometers apart on flat ground and the landscapes along the route are very typical but also at times surprising. This bike ride will be an opportunity to discover the charms of Hue’s countryside, its ancient villages, and its pagodas as well as its rivers covered with lotus flowers.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Imperial Palace (the Citadel), located right on the banks of the Perfume River. Later, you will be given an introduction to Hue’s kite history, the tools and materials used to make kites. The kite master will demonstrate all the steps to make a kite and instruct you carefully from the beginning to the final step. At the end of the lesson, you will be presented with your own handmade kite and you will fly it together with some local kite flyers.

Day 7: Hue – Hoi An
In the morning, you will pay a visit to the tomb of Minh Mang. Afterwards board the train to Danang via the scenic Hai Van Pass to view one of the most beautiful panoramas in Vietnam. The standards on the train are very basic, however this will be a perfect chance to mingle with the locals while admiring the best part of Vietnam’s beautiful coastline. You will arrive in Danang in the afternoon, and then take a private car to drive to Hoi An (45 minutes travel time) and check in at hotel. The remainder of the day will be free to relax and unwind.

Day 8: Hoi An
After breakfast, you will depart the hotel for a discovery tour around Hoi An. Start with a boat ride to the mouth of Thu Bon river to enjoy the daily activities of the fishing people such as throwing a fishing net and trading their products. Your boat will then continue cruising for about half an hour to a fishing village where you will change to a smaller bamboo boat (a coracle) to discover a distinctive mangrove forest. This excursion will also give you a chance to admire skillful fishermen working in the forest. You will head back to the main land in mid-morning and will then take a stroll through the small streets of the town to explore some of the two-century-old Chinese houses. Sites include the Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple, and Tan Ky trading house.
In the afternoon, you will join a workshop for producing lanterns, where you will have the chance to learn this traditional handicraft and create one yourself. The rest of day will be at your leisure to enjoy the beach or Hoi An town.

Day 9: Surroundings of Hoi An
In the morning, you will be taken to a buffalo cart station and sit back relaxed on a buffalo cart as you will plod along through the countryside to the farm site around 20 minutes away. Upon arrival at the farm, join with the local farmers to work in the field: ploughing/raking soil, transplanting rice, scooping water with different kinds of scoopers. It will be a great chance to ride the buffalo and take a photo with them. In this peaceful setting, you will be able to observe and take part in the various stages of rice processing: husking the paddy grains (the rice still covered in its shell), pounding and bleaching. Try your hand at the tools and artisanal machines under the watchful and encouraging eyes of your teachers for the day. After that, you will savor an excellent lunch of local specialties: tam huu (small skewers of pork and prawns, which are lovely to look at and eat), rice pancakes, spring rolls, soups and caramelized pork.
You will be back to Hoi An town in the early afternoon for some time to freely explore the riverside, shops and cafes.

Day 10: Hoi An – Danang – Ho Chi Minh City
In the morning you will be driven to Danang airport for a short flight to Ho Chi Minh City. From the airport you will travel to the city to start your exploration of this dynamic metropolis. You will visit the historic sites including: the Old Post Office, the Notre Dame cathedral, Dong Khoi Street and the Chinese District of Cho Lon with bustling Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Pagoda. You will be back at your hotel later in the afternoon.

Option: “A Ố” Show
“À Ố” is the name given to the show, which is a new kind of art performance commonly acknowledged globally as “new circus”. The show surpasses all the limits that were previously constructed by many other art shows in Vietnam over the years. Take the opportunity to let your imagination soar, inspired by the visual creations and lighting of each performance. The main elements of the show are bamboo basket boats and their use in the daily life of many Vietnamese. During the 60-minute performance, you will be gently introduced to many different tones of emotion. After the show, our guide will take you back to your hotel or your next activity.


Day 11: Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta – Ho Chi Minh City
You will travel from Ho Chi Minh City to explore Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta. From Phong Nam pier you will board a boat and cruise along the Chet Say river and stop off at various local workplaces, including a coconut activated charcoal factory; a coconut processing workshop, where you can sample fresh coconut and see how every single part of this versatile nut is turned into food and other products. Then the boat will cruise through the small canal. Eventually the boat will stop at a quiet village where you can have a short walk to experience real Delta village life, visit a mat weaving house, where straw mats are woven using a hand loom – you can even have a go at weaving yourself before boarding your xe loi (a kind of motorized rickshaw) or biking into the village where you will see a farm, rice fields and vegetable plantings before stopping at a local house for a delicious and filling lunch, featuring such local specialties as elephant-ear fish and river shrimp, washed down with some cold drinks or beers.
After lunch, it will be time to board a sampan for a relaxing trip along narrow canals and back to the pier. You will then go back to the main road for the trip back to your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 12: Ho Chi Minh City departure
Enjoy some free time at your leisure before heading to the airport for your departure flight.
