Description

Chinatown is one of Bangkok’s biggest and busiest neighborhoods with Talad Noi recently emerging as one of its trendiest and most colorful areas, where old meets new. Its small alleys with hidden shrines and stylish cafe’s make it a great area to explore on foot. A photo hunt in Talad Noi offers a great way to discover the area and interact with locals, and doing it with a physical map and Polaroid camera matches perfectly with the vintage atmosphere. Guests will have to find their way to several iconic sights and photograph them, as well as some “street scenes”. Adventurous travelers have the opportunity to do the activity independently, but it is also possible to embark on the photo hunt with a guide. The start and end point of the trip is a cafe in a restored old house where guests can enjoy a meal or drink after the adventure.

Information

The concept of this activity is a polaroid photo hunt in Talad Noi neighborhood during which guests will need to find and take photos of different sights and street scenes in the area. There are 2 options of how to sell this product:
  1. Without a guide to lead them. Guests will need to make their way to the starting point where they will get a briefing, a Polaroid camera and a folder with a map and info. Basic instructions on how to get to the starting point will be mentioned in the program text.
  2. With a guide who will escort them to the starting point and who will facilitate along the way. Guests will still get a Polaroid camera and a folder with a map there. The goal is for the guide to encourage local interaction and help in case of any difficulties.
The concept is to make this tour “analog” and the use of any technology is discouraged. The starting and ending point of the hunt will be Photohostel, where guests can enjoy a lunch or drink (depending on time of day) after the trip.
The fixed spots are:
  1. Chow Sue Kong Shrine
  2. Talad Noi Street Art
  3. The Chinatown Gate (Odeon Cicle)
  4. Old Houses at Wat Pathum Kongka

The street scenes are:

  1. Metal workers
  2. Food being sold from a food cart
  3. An old-timer car
  4. A classic Vespa

Alerts

  • The rate of the service includes a fee to Photohostel, which will serve as a starting and end point, with basic facilities (toilets, drinks available etc.). The fee also covers a briefing for our guests, which is especially necessary in case there is no guide with them.
  • The map and folder are currently only available in English. Translation into French will be a priority, for other languages we will see the performance of the product first.
  • The briefing at Photohostel is only possible in English, in case of 3rd languages, it is always best to include a guide if the guests don’t speak English.
  • The fee to Photohostel also includes a meal OR a drink, there are separate services for this in ERP. However, the rate is the same regardless of the choice. So, in most cases, it is encouraged to have lunch. However, for higher-end clients, you may want to select the drink option and if needed, include lunch at a more established option.
  • The map is not 100% accurate, this is on purpose to encourage guests to ask for help from locals to navigate to the main sites.

Important information

Quotation guideline

  • Bangkok → Activity → Easia signature – Polaroid Photo Hunt → Polaroid Photo Hunt with Lunch (options of camera / pax)
  • Bangkok → Activity → Easia signature – Polaroid Photo Hunt → Polaroid Photo Hunt with Drink (options of camera / pax)

Inclusion

  • Folder to store map and photographs.
  • Map with explanations and mission of the activity.
  • Cartridge with 20 Polaroid photos.
  • The use of a Polaroid camera (not to take home).
  • Briefing at Photohostel.
  • Light lunch OR drink at Photohostel.

Exclusion

  • Transportation
  • Guide (optional, only needed if support on spot is needed)
  • Any purchases on spot

Possible Extra

  • A guide to accompany the guests during the photo hunt, to have some backup and extra comfort during the activity.

Important notes

  • The guide should provide the folder with the map (if the tour is conducted with a guide), or otherwise, it should be provided at the hotel. The map contains information about the starting point that guests can use to get to Photohostel in case no guide joins the trip.
  • Photo Hostel & Cafe opens at 10 am, it is recommended to arrive there around this time to avoid the heat and have enough time for the walk/hunt.

Special Guide notes

  • The guide should not lead the guests to the sights of the photo hunt, but rather just facilitate when needed and encourage the guests to interact with locals.
  • The photo of Talad Noi street art can be any art, but the one we aim for is the soi where Mother Roaster is located.
  • The old Houses at Wat Pathum Kongka can be accessed via the main entrance of the temple, but there is also a small gate at Phanurangsi pier that is usually unlocked.

Different Choice

This is an Easia Signature activity and there are no real alternatives.

The closest alternative would be a scavenger hunt like Amazing Adventure Bangkok (only for groups) or GoSnoop.

Today’s photo hunt will take place at Talad Noi, a vibrant and trendy area in Bangkok’s Chinatown neighborhood, but your adventure starts right at your hotel! Your first mission will be reaching the Photohostel & Cafe, the starting point of the hunt, and the place where you will receive your Polaroid camera. You can find the address and contact details in English and Thai on the map that you will also use for the hunt. The easiest way to reach the Photohostel & Cafe is to make your way to either Hualampong Station, or River City Bangkok. You can reach both places by taxi, or otherwise, you can take the MRT metro to Hualampong, or the boat to River City Bangkok. If you are unsure about which place is easiest to reach from where you are, the staff at the reception in your hotel can surely help. From both places, you will have to walk for about 10 minutes, or take a tuk-tuk, because the streets to reach the hostel are too narrow for cars to enter. Aim to reach the Photohostel and Cafe at 10.00 am, which is the opening time.
