DAY 1: HO CHI MINH CITY – SOC TRANG – NGA NAM

Today you will drive South to a non-touristy region of Mekong Delta. You will arrive in Soc Trang in the afternoon, and continue to My Tu district, a quiet rural area known for its network of canals and rice fields. Upon arrival, check in at a local homestay built with natural materials such as wood, bamboo, and palm leaves, reflecting a simple and eco-friendly lifestyle. After some time to settle in, you are introduced to your host family and the surroundings. Towards the end of the day, you will join your host in preparing dinner, a relaxed and convivial moment to share and exchange.

DAY 2: NGA NAM

After breakfast at the homestay, you will set off on a bicycle ride through the surrounding villages. Quiet paths lined with trees and gardens offer a closer look at everyday life in the Delta, at an unhurried pace. Along the way, you will make several stops to discover local crafts such as bánh lá (steamed rice cakes), coconut leaf weaving, cassava-based cakes, and handmade broom making. You will return to the homestay for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will walk through nearby orchards with your host, gaining insight into seasonal farming and local routines. Later, up to a local boat and check with your host the fish traps that were set earlier in the day, offering a glimpse into everyday fishing practices. Towards the end of the day, you will join in preparing dinner, including the making of “bánh xèo”, a well-known southern specialty.
Dinner and overnight stay at the homestay in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

You will depart early by boat to Nga Nam floating market, once one of the region’s important river trading hubs where boats gathered in the early morning for commerce. Today, while only a few trading boats remain, it is still considered one of the rare surviving floating market spots in the Mekong Delta, offering a glimpse into a fading river-based way of life. After observing the quiet activity on the water, you will continue with a short visit to the riverside market on the bank, then you will continue by road to Ho Chi Minh City

Today you will drive South to a non-touristy region of Mekong Delta. You will arrive first in Cai Be, where you will start a boat ride along the calm waterways of the Mekong Delta. The cruise offers a gentle introduction to river life, with passing boats, small trading activities, and scenes of daily life along the banks. You will stop on Tan Phong Island, where a walk or short bicycle ride along shaded village paths allows for a closer look at local life. Along the way, you will visit a few households to observe traditional crafts, including the making of rice paper, coconut leaf roofing, and simple handicrafts using water hyacinth. These encounters remain informal and depend on daily activity. You will then continue by sampan through narrow canals, moving quietly through a landscape of dense vegetation before rejoining the main boat. Further cruising leads to An Binh Island, where a short pause will give you the opportunity to enjoy traditional music in a relaxed setting. In the afternoon, you will make a brief stop at a local brick kiln, offering another glimpse into delta life, before disembarking in Vinh Long.
Then continue by road towards Soc Trang, a region known for its network of canals and rice fields. Auf ruhigen, von Bäumen und Gärten gesäumten Wegen können Sie in gemächlichem Tempo einen Einblick in den Alltag im Delta gewinnen. Unterwegs legen Sie mehrere Stopps ein, um lokales Handwerk wie Bánh lá (gedämpfte Reiskuchen), das Flechten von Kokosblättern, Kuchen aus Maniok und die Herstellung handgefertigter Besen zu entdecken. Zum Mittagessen kehren Sie zur Gastfamilie zurück. Am Nachmittag spazieren Sie mit Ihrem Gastgeber durch nahegelegene Obstgärten und erhalten Einblicke in die saisonale Landwirtschaft und die lokalen Abläufe. Sie brechen früh zu einer Bootsfahrt nach Nga Nam auf, einem lokalen schwimmenden Markt, der einst einer der wichtigsten Handelsknotenpunkte der Region war, an dem sich am frühen Morgen Boote zum Handel versammelten. Auch wenn heute nur noch wenige Handelsboote übrig sind, gilt er nach wie vor als einer der wenigen erhaltenen schwimmenden Märkte im Mekong-Delta und bietet einen Einblick in eine aussterbende Lebensweise am Fluss. Nachdem Sie das ruhige Treiben auf dem Wasser beobachtet haben, machen Sie einen kurzen Abstecher zum Markt am Flussufer und fahren dann auf der Straße weiter zu Ihrem nächsten Ziel.
