Day 1: Pakse – Champasak – Don Daeng Island
Transfer from Pakse Airport to Champasak. Upon arrival, collect your bike and cycle through the town center, local villages, and surrounding rice paddies. Continue to Wat Phou, the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site, and spend time exploring the ancient temple complex. Afterward, transfer across the Mekong River to Don Daeng Island, pick up a new bike to explore the laid-back island environment, greet the friendly locals along the way, and unwind in the tranquil atmosphere.

Day 2: Don Daeng Island – Si Phan Don (4,000 Islands) – Don Daeng Island
Transfer south to Si Phan Don, the stunning archipelago at the southern tip of Laos. Once you arrive, grab your bike and explore the islands at a relaxed, leisurely pace. Along the way, stop to discover key local highlights including Laos’ first historical railway station, scenic rapids, and the dramatic Li Phi Waterfall, where you can experience the suspension bridges before return to Don Daeng Island for your accommodation

Day 3: Champasak – Ubon Ratchathani Airport
Bid farewell to southern Laos as you transfer across the border into Thailand. Continue your journey to Ubon Ratchathani Airport to catch your departing flight.

• All of the hikes are of an easy-medium level – accessible to everyone who is in ok shape and can walk for several hours – technical details can be seen in the program texts.
• We must use La Folie Lodge as the accommodation as that is where the activities start
• Best included in a self-guided tour program to Laos or combined with other destinations.
• On this tour travelers will be responsible for paying for their own entrance fees.
• Developed as one of the first products in our self-guided project for Laos.
• If travelers are not really adventurous or are worried they can’t navigate by themselves, it’s possible to do this module with a guide!

Important notes

Day 1: Pakse Airport – Champasak – Don Daeng Island (La Folie Lodge)

• 11:30 AM – Airport Pick-up: Driver meets clients at Pakse International Airport arrivals area holding a sign with the client’s name, following their midday flight arrival from Vientiane.
• 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Transfer to Champasak: Drive from Pakse to Champasak town (approx. 1 hour).
• 12:30 – 01:30 PM – Lunch Break: Stop for lunch in Champasak town center or near the riverside (clients’ own arrangement).
• 01:30 PM – Cycle & Wat Phou Exploration: Clients collect their bikes and begin their self-guided ride through town and out to Wat Phou. (Driver note: The driver waits at the Wat Phou parking lot to hold any main luggage while clients explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site).
• 04:00 PM – Transfer to La Folie Lodge Pier: After exploring Wat Phou, driver loads the bikes and transfers clients a short distance to the dedicated mainland pier for La Folie Lodge.
• 04:30 PM onwards: Clients take the resort shuttle boat across the Mekong River to check in at La Folie Lodge and prepare for self-guided island exploration. Driver’s services conclude for the day.

Day 2: Don Daeng – Si Phan Don (Don Khon) – Return to La Folie Lodge

• 08:00 AM – Resort Departure & Mainland Pick-up: Clients take the morning resort boat back to the mainland pier. The driver is waiting at the mainland pier parking area with the vehicle.
• 08:15 – 10:45 AM – Overland Transfer: Drive south from Champasak to Nakassan Pier (approx. 2.5 hours).
• 10:45 AM – Pier Arrival & Boat to Island: Driver drops clients at Nakassan Pier. Clients take a local long-tail boat across to Don Khon/Don Det. (Driver note: Since clients are returning to La Folie Lodge tonight, any heavier luggage can remain securely stored in the vehicle).
• 11:00 AM – 03:30 PM – Self-Guided Exploration: Clients collect bikes on the island to independently explore the old railway station, local rapids, and Li Phi Waterfall, followed by a relaxing lunch.
• 03:30 PM – Return Transfer: Clients take the local boat back to Nakassan Pier.
• 04:00 – 06:30 PM – Return Drive: Driver meets clients at Nakassan Pier and transfers them back north to the Champasak mainland pier (approx. 2.5 hours).
• 06:30 PM – Return to Resort: Clients take the La Folie Lodge shuttle boat back across the river for a restful evening at the resort. Driver’s services conclude for the day.

Day 3: Don Daeng Island – Vang Tao / Chong Mek Border – Ubon Ratchathani Airport

• Morning (Timing depends on flight schedule, e.g., 08:00 AM): Clients take the resort boat from La Folie Lodge back to the mainland pier.
• Meet the Driver: Driver is waiting at the mainland pier parking area with the vehicle and luggage.
• Overland Transfer & Border Crossing: Driver transfers clients north to the Vang Tao (Laos) / Chong Mek (Thailand) international border checkpoint (approx. 1.5 hours from Champasak).
• Transfer to Airport: Drive from Chong Mek border to Ubon Ratchathani Airport (UBP), taking approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, ensuring arrival well ahead of the departure flight.

Day X: Pakse – Champasak – Don Daeng Island

Your day will start with an airport pick-up at Pakse International Airport, where your driver will meet you at the arrivals area following your midday flight from Vientiane. You will travel by car to Champasak town. Stop for lunch in town or near the riverside on your own arrangement. Afterwards, you will collect your bikes and begin your self-guided cycling tour through town and out to Wat Phou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the morning, you will take the resort boat back to the mainland pier to meet your driver. You will travel by car south from Champasak to Nakassan Pier. Upon arrival, you will take a local long-tail boat across to Don Khon and Don Det. Your heavier luggage will remain securely stored in the vehicle. You will collect bikes on the island for self-guided tour exploring the island stop at the old railway station, local rapids, and Li Phi Waterfall, followed by a lunch break. In the afternoon, you will take the local boat back to Nakassan Pier and travel by car back north to the Champasak mainland pier. You will then take the resort shuttle boat back across the river.

You will travel by car north to the Vang Tao and Chong Mek international border checkpoint. Your driver will assist you with your luggage at the Laos border exit. After clearing Thai immigration at Chong Mek, you will continue to Ubon Ratchathani Airport for your departure flight.

Jour X : Pakse – Champasak – Île de Don Daeng

À votre arrivée, vous embarquerez à bord d’un bateau local à longue queue pour rejoindre les îles de Don Khon et Don Det. Vos bagages les plus volumineux resteront en sécurité dans le véhicule. Vous récupérerez ensuite vos vélos pour une exploration libre des îles, avec des arrêts à l’ancienne gare ferroviaire, aux rapides locaux ainsi qu’aux chutes de Li Phi, suivis d’une pause déjeuner.

All’arrivo, salirete a bordo di una tradizionale barca locale a coda lunga per raggiungere le isole di Don Khon e Don Det. I bagagli più pesanti rimarranno custoditi in sicurezza nel veicolo. Ritirerete quindi le biciclette sull’isola per un tour self-guided, con soste presso la vecchia stazione ferroviaria, le rapide locali e la cascata di Li Phi, seguite da una pausa pranzo.

Nel pomeriggio, rientrerete in barca locale al molo di Nakassan e proseguirete in auto verso nord fino al molo continentale di Champasak. Da qui prenderete nuovamente la navetta fluviale del resort per attraversare il fiume e tornare al vostro alloggio.

Ihr Tag beginnt mit der Abholung am internationalen Flughafen von Pakse, wo Ihr Fahrer Sie nach Ihrem Mittagsflug aus Vientiane im Ankunftsbereich erwartet. Am Morgen nehmen Sie das Boot des Resorts zurück zum Festlandanleger, wo Ihr Fahrer auf Sie wartet. Anschließend fahren Sie von Champasak aus südwärts zum Nakassan-Anleger.

Nach Ihrer Ankunft überqueren Sie mit einem lokalen Longtail-Boot nach Don Khon und Don Det. Ihr größeres Gepäck bleibt sicher im Fahrzeug verstaut. Auf der Insel übernehmen Sie Fahrräder für eine individuelle Erkundungstour mit Stopps am alten Bahnhof, an den Stromschnellen sowie am Li-Phi-Wasserfall. Unterwegs ist eine Mittagspause vorgesehen.

Am Nachmittag fahren Sie mit dem lokalen Boot zurück zum Nakassan-Anleger und anschließend mit dem Auto zurück nach Norden zum Festlandanleger von Champasak. Von dort bringt Sie das Shuttleboot des Resorts wieder über den Mekong zu Ihrer Unterkunft.

Anschließend fahren Sie nordwärts zum internationalen Grenzübergang Vang Tao / Chong Mek. Ihr Fahrer unterstützt Sie mit Ihrem Gepäck bei den Ausreiseformalitäten auf laotischer Seite. Nach der Einreise nach Thailand am Grenzübergang Chong Mek setzen Sie Ihre Fahrt zum Flughafen Ubon Ratchathani fort, wo Ihre Reise endet.
