Day by day description

Day 1: Phnom Penh – Kompong Cham
In the early morning, guests will meet the driver and cycling guide at their hotel to begin the cycling tour around Cambodia.
Guests will travel to Diamond Island, where the bicycles are waiting and will take the ferry across the mighty Mekong River. Arriving on the East side of the river, guests will start cycling until they reach a local Weaving House and learn how Cambodians produce their beautiful silk and create their famous scarves called Krama. Continuing the journey, guests will pedal on the road along the Mekong River, through colorful local villages, admiring the local people living their daily life. After a lunch break, they will take the second ferry to cross the river, and continue pedaling until they reach Kompong Cham, the final destination for the day.

Day 2: Kompong Cham – Kompong Thma – Kompong Thom
Today, guests will travel to Wat Hanchey, an ancient hilltop pagoda dating from the 8th century AD, where they can enjoy one of the best views of the Mekong River and a stunningly beautiful complex of temples.
Guests will then start cycling from the hilltop, heading Northwest through different local villages. This area is famous for its cassava plantations, various exotic fruits, and its traditional rural life.
Guests will end the day by arriving at the Stung Chinit Tourism Site, an artificial lake where they will enjoy a refreshing drink in a local bar before retiring to the hotel.

Day 3: Kompong Thom – Sambor Prei Kuk – Kompong Thom
Today, the final destination will be Kompong Thom, where the famous Sambor Prei Kuk archaeological site is located. This site has been recently nominated as UNESCO World Heritage site, and it covers a huge area of 25 square kilometers, including a walled center, as well as numerous temples dated to the 6th to 9th centuries AD, ten of which are octagonal; unique examples of their type in Southeast Asia.
To reach this stunning site, guests will pedal along dirt trails through rural villages, rice fields, and different plantations where they can stop at local stalls to partake in some delicious Cambodian fruits and snacks.
After lunch, guests will finally reach the archaeological site. Not only will they cycle through the verdant and wild forests, but they will have the chance to disembark and explore some of the ancient temples nestled among the foliage.

Day 4: Kompong Thom – Kompong Kdei – Beng Mealea
This morning, guests will travel to Kompong Kdei, a small town famous for its ancient bridge called Spean Praptos, also known as Kompong Kdei Bridge. This ancient bridge is one the few Khmer Empire era bridges to have survived to the modern day, and it used to connect the city of Angkor to the Phnom Chisor Temple. After a short visit to this site, guests will start pedaling North towards the Beng Mealea Temple. They will enjoy the relaxing countryside, passing through more rice fields and village,s alive with the sound of playful Cambodian children.
Soon, they will arrive at Beng Mealea around lunch time and enjoy some delicious Khmer food at a local restaurant.
Beng Mealea (“Lotus Pond”) is a 12th century temple, built during the Angkor Wat era. It is one of the most impressive temples in Cambodia, having been nearly engulfed by the ever-encroaching forest. And for cinephiles, this temple is also famous for its appearance in movies like Les Deux Freres.
After lunch, guests will visit the hidden, secondary temples located on the outskirts of the site and at the end of the day, just at sundown, they will get to explore Beng Mealea Temple in absolute privacy.
Finally, guests will reach the home-stay and be welcomed by the local family with a delicious Cambodian meal.

After waking up in the early morning and enjoying a traditional Cambodian breakfast cooked by the local family, guests will start cycling directly South from the home-stay to reach a country trail that winds through endless fields of rice, rows of palm trees, and local villages.
The first stop of the day will be Traov Kot, a sparkling lake popular with the local people as a picnic area where they like to spend their leisure time fishing and hanging out with friends and family.
After this short break, guests will continue towards Siem Reap, the final destination.

INFORMATION ABOUT CYCLING MODULE

  • Duration is quite important but we can reduce or extend the daily cycling kilometers, and the van is always available for back-up
  • During the first day, for long cycling tour option, we will organize a picnic along the way. For short option, late lunch in Kompong Cham
  • Komponh Thma- there is only a local guesthouse available and limited options for restaurants
  • Beng Mealea- the home-stay is the only type of accommodation
  • This Module is available for teenagers with a high level of cycling and good physical conditions. Full-day van support in case travelers can’t finish the tour
  • Roads condition are good: pleasant trails easy to cycle with no difficult technical paths.

SEASONALITY DETAILS

Best time to experience this Module is from November to end of March for the perfect temperature. In April and May, it is very hot. June to August is the green season, with some rain during the early morning late afternoon, boasting beautiful and green landscape. Avoid September and October due to the heavy rain.

  • Detailed timing: Departure in early morning from hotel in order to have enough time to reach the final destination
  • During the tour, call the restaurant or the person in charge of the picnic set up at least 1 hour before to inform about the arrival time – Important to have a good and warm meal during lunch or dinner
  • For the restaurant out of province and on the remote areas guide must call them before starting the tour to confirm about the food

  • Guide must stop and allow the travelers try some local snacks along the way; important to allow travelers experience local life and traditions of the country

Option 1 – Shorter Cycling tour

In the early morning, you will meet your driver and cycling guide at your hotel to begin the cycling tour around Cambodia.

This morning, you’ll travel to Kompong Kdei, a small town famous for its ancient bridge called Spean Praptos, also known as the Kompong Kdei Bridge. This ancient bridge is one the few Khmer Empire era bridges to have survived to the modern day, and it used to connect the city of Angkor to the Phnom Chisor Temple.
After a short visit to this site, you’ll head North towards the Beng Mealea Temple. Enjoy the relaxing countryside as you pedal through rice fields and more rural villages, alive with the sound of playful Cambodian children.
Soon, you’ll arrive at Beng Mealea around lunch time and enjoy some delicious Khmer food at a local restaurant.
Beng Mealea (“Lotus Pond”) is a 12th century AD temple, built during the Angkor Wat era. It is one of the most impressive temples in Cambodia, having been nearly swallowed by the jungle. It’s also famous for its appearances in various movies like Les Deux Freres.
After lunch, you’ll explore some hidden, secondary temples located on the outskirts of the site, and at the end of the day, just at sundown, you can explore Beng Mealea Temple in absolute privacy.
Fianlly, you’ll reach your home-stay and be welcomed by your local family for a delicious Cambodian meal.

Vous vous rendrez à Diamond Island et prendrez le ferry pour traverser le Mékong. Un peu plus loin sur la côte est du fleuve, vous atteindrez la maison du tissage et découvrirez comment les Cambodgiens fabriquent leurs beaux et célèbres foulards en soie appelés krama.

Jour X: Kompong Thom – Sambor Prei Kuk – Kompong Thom

Vous rejoindrez aujourd’hui la province de Kompong Thom où se trouve le célèbre site archéologique de Sambor Prei Kuk classé au Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO. Ce site couvrant 25 kilomètres carrés comprend une cité fortifiée ainsi que de nombreux temples datant du VIe au IXe siècle. Dix de ces derniers ont une forme octogonale, chose unique en Asie du sud-est.
Avant d’atteindre ce site exceptionnel, vous traverserez des villages, des rizières et différentes plantations en empruntant des petits chemins. Vous pourrez vous arrêter en route pour goûter les délicieux fruits et encas typiques proposés sur les divers étals.
Vous rejoindrez le site archéologique après le déjeuner et pourrez le visiter à vélo en traversant la jungle sauvage et verdoyante ou bien mettre pied à terre pour explorer les temples que la végétation envahit peu à peu.

Jour X: Kompong Thom – Kompong Kdei – Beng Mealea

Dans la matinée vous vous rendrez dans la petite ville de Kompong Kdei, célèbre pour son ancien pont appelé Spean Praptos ou bien pont de Kompong Kdei. Cet ancien édifice est l’un des seuls ponts datant de l’époque de l’Empire Khmer ayant survécu jusqu’à aujourd’hui, il reliait autrefois la ville d’Angkor au temple de Phnom Chisor.
Après une courte visite du site, vous prendrez la direction du nord vers le temple de Beng Mealea. Vous découvrirez la campagne tranquille au fil des rizières et des petits villages animés par les cris joyeux des enfants cambodgiens.
Vous arriverez à Beng Mealea autour de l’heure du déjeuner et dégusterez un bon repas khmer dans un restaurant local.
Beng Mealea qui signifie “l’étang au lotus” est un temple datant du XIIe siècle, construit pendant l’ère d’Angkor Wat. C’est l’un des temples les plus impressionnants du Cambodge bien qu’il soit presque entièrement englouti par la jungle. Il a été rendu célèbre par son apparition dans plusieurs films comme Les Deux Frères.
Après la pause-déjeuner vous explorerez d’autres temples cachés situés dans les alentours avant de visiter en fin de journée, au soleil couchant, le temple de Beng Mealea en toute intimité.

Día X: Kompong Thom – Sambor Prei Kuk – Kompong Thom

Hoy, su destino final será Kompong Thom, la región en la que está emplazado el yacimiento arqueológico de Sambor Prei Kuk. Este yacimiento ha sido reconocido recientemente como patrimonio de la humanidad por la UNESCO, y cubre una amplia zona de 25 kilómetros cuadrados en los que se incluye un centro urbano amurallado, así como numerosos templos que datan del siglo VI al siglo IX, diez de los cuales son ejemplares octogonales únicos en su tipo en el sureste asiático.
Para llegar a este alucinante emplazamiento, pedaleará a lo largo de caminos de tierra, pasando a través de pueblos rurales, campos de arroz y diferentes plantaciones, donde podrá detenerse en diferentes puestos locales para probar algunas frutas y aperitivos camboyanos deliciosos.

Día X: Kompong Thom – Kompong Kdei – Beng Mealea

Esta mañana, viajará a Kompong Kdei, una pequeña ciudad conocida por su antiguo puente denominado SpeanPraptos, también conocido como el puente Kompong Kdei. Este antiguo puente es uno de los pocos puentes de la era Jemer que ha sobrevivido hasta la era moderna, y se utiliza para conectar la ciudad de Angkor al templo PhnomChisor.

Giorno X: KompongThom – SamborPreiKuk – KompongThom

Oggi, la vostra destinazione finale sarà KompongThom, la regione in cui si trova il famoso sito archeologico di SamborPreiKuk. Questo sito è stato recentemente nominato Patrimonio dell’Umanità dell’UNESCO e copre un’area di 25 chilometri quadrati, tra cui un centro città fortificato, nonché numerosi templi datati tra il VI e il IX secolo, dieci dei quali sono ottagonali, esemplari unici del loro tipo nel sud-est asiatico.
Per raggiungere questo splendido sito, pedalerete lungo sentieri sterrati, passando per villaggi rurali, risaie e diverse piantagioni, dove potrete sostare in diverse bancarelle locali per assaggiare deliziosi frutti e spuntini cambogiani.
Dopo pranzo, finalmente raggiungerete il sito archeologico. Non solo pedalerete attraverso le giungle selvagge e verdeggianti, ma potrete anche sbarcare per esplorare alcuni dei templi lentamente inghiottiti dalla giungla che avanza.

Giorno X: KompongThom – KompongKdei – BengMealea

Questa mattina, viaggerete a KompongKdei, una piccola città famosa per il suo antico ponte chiamato SpeanPraptos, noto anche come KompongKdei Bridge. Questo antico ponte è uno dei pochi dell’era dell’Impero Khmer sopravvissuti fino ai giorni nostri, e collegava la città di Angkor al Tempio di Phnom Chisor.
Dopo una breve visita a questo sito, vi dirigerete a nord verso il tempio di BengMealea. Godetevi la campagna rilassante mentre attraversate campi di riso e i villaggi rurali, vivete il suono dei bambini cambogiani giocherelloni.
Presto arriverete a BengMealea verso l’ora di pranzo e assaporerete del delizioso cibo Khmer in un ristorante locale.
BengMealea (‘Stagno di Loto’) è un tempio del XII secolo, costruito durante l’era di Angkor Wat. È uno dei templi più impressionanti della Cambogia, essendo stato quasi inghiottito dalla giungla. È anche famoso per le sue apparizioni in vari film come LesDeuxFreres (‘Due fratelli’).

Inizierete a pedalare direttamente verso sud dalla casa di famiglia verso un tranquillo sentiero fiancheggiato da palme, infinite risaie e incantevoli paesini.
La prima tappa della giornata sarà TraovKot, un lago scintillante popolare tra la gente del posto come area picnic dove gli piace trascorrere il tempo libero a pescare e uscire con gli amici e la famiglia.

Option 1 – Kürzere Radtour

Früh morgens treffen Sie Ihren Fahrer und Fahrrad-Reiseleiter an Ihrem Hotel, um mit der Radtour durch Kambodscha zu beginnen.
Zunächst fahren Sie nach Diamond Island und überqueren mit der Fähre den Mekong-Fluss. Angekommen auf der Ostseite des Flusses, fahren Sie einige Kilometer bis zu einem lokalen Weberhaus und lernen, wie Kambodschaner die schöne Seide herstellen und ihren berühmten Schal namens Krama kreieren.
Weiter geht die Reise auf der Straße, bis Sie den Startpunkt der Fahrradtour erreichen. Dort begeben Sie sich auf die Räder und das Abenteuer beginnt. Sie werden entlang des Mekong-Flusses durch farbenfrohe, lokale Gemeinden fahren und die Einheimischen beim Verrichten alltäglicher Dinge sehen.

Sie reisen zunächst nach Wat Hanchey, eine uralte, auf einem Hügel befindliche Pagode aus dem 8. Jahrhundert nach Christus. Dort können Sie eine der schönsten Aussichten auf den Mekong-Fluss und auf einen atemberaubenden Komplex aus Tempeln genießen.

Tag X: Kompong Thom – Sambor Prei Kuk – Kompong Thom

Ihr Ziel des Tages wird Kompong Thom sein, die Region, in der sich die berühmte archäologische Stätte Sambor Prei Kuk befindet. Erst kürzlich wurde der Ort als UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe nominiert. Das Gebiet ist riesig und umfasst 25 Quadratkilometer inklusive eines ummauerten Stadtzentrums sowie zahlreichen Tempeln aus der Zeit vom 6. bis 9. Jahrhundert; zehn der Tempel sind achteckig und einzigartige Exemplare ihres Typus in Südostasien.
Um die atemberaubende Stätte zu erreichen, radeln Sie auf unbefestigten Wegen und passieren ländliche Gemeinden, Reisfelder und unterschiedliche Plantagen. Unterwegs können Sie an verschiedenen, heimischen Ständen halten, um einige köstliche, kambodschanische Früchte und Snacks zu probieren.

Tag X: Kompong Thom – Kompong Kdei – Beng Mealea

Am Vormittag fahren Sie nach Kompong Kdei, eine kleine Stadt, die berühmt für ihre uralte Brücke namens Spean Praptos ist, auch bekannt als Kompong-Kdei-Brücke.
Diese alte Brücke gehört zu den wenigen Brücken aus der Khmer-Reich-Ära, die bis in die heutige Zeit erhalten sind; sie wird genutzt, um die Stadt Angkor mit dem Phnom-Chisor-Tempel zu verbinden.
Nach einer kurzen Besichtigung dieser Sehenswürdigkeit geht es weiter in Richtung Norden zum Tempel Beng Mealea. Genießen Sie die entspannte Landschaft, indem Sie durch Reisfelder und noch mehr ländliche Dörfer radeln, begleitet von den Lauten verspielter, kambodschanischer Kinder.
Schließlich erreichen Sie zur Mittagszeit Beng Mealea und werden einige Khmer-Köstlichkeiten in einem lokalen Restaurant probieren können.
Beng Mealea („Seerosenteich“) ist ein aus dem 12. Jahrhundert nach Christus stammender Tempel, der während der Angkor-Wat-Ära erbaut wurde. Es handelt sich um einen der beeindruckendsten Tempel in ganz Kambodscha, der fast ganz vom Dschungel verschlungen wurde. Zudem ist der Tempel berühmt für sein Vorkommen in unterschiedlichen Filmen wie etwa Les Deux Freres.
Nach dem Mittagessen werden Sie einige versteckte, sekundäre Tempel in den Außenbereichen erkunden. Und am Ende des Tages, bei Sonnenuntergang, können Sie den Beng-Mealea-Tempel in absoluter Privatheit entdecken.

Sie beginnen die Radtour direkt von Ihrer Gastfamilie aus und fahren in Richtung Süden auf einem ruhigen, mit Palmen gesäumten Pfad, entlang von endlosen Reisfeldern und malerischen, kleinen Dörfern.
Den ersten Halt des Tages werden Sie am Traov Kot einlegen, einem glitzernden See, der unter den Einheimischen als Picknick-Gebiet bekannt ist und wo diese gerne ihre Freizeit verbringen, um zu angeln oder Familie und Freunde zu treffen.
