The best of Southern Shan State in a nutshell! This bicycle ride will lead you on the winding and hilly – sometimes steep – roads between Pindaya, Kalaw and Inle Lake. This tour is characterised by its colourful landscape: a patchwork of bright green, from the seasonal crops, and intense orange, from the ochre soil. Balancing physical challenge with local encounter, this Shan State Cycling tour is an ideal way of discovering Myanmar’s countryside vibe for active travellers. Get ready for a seamless bike experience, starting directly at the local airport after your domestic flight and finishing on the shores of Inle Lake.

Cons

  • Travelers have to ride rocky roads sometimes but mostly gravel and undulating with short downhills and uphills challenging road
  • Limited choice of restaurants and accommodations along the way (local choices)
  • Limited choice of guide languages –  only English (national guide can follow in the car if needed if they don’t have the level of fitness)
  • During dry season, conditions can be difficult, as the weather is hot. During raining season, it can be muddy and slippery after the rain.

Guiding, logistics and luggage transfer

  • Each tour is automatically accompanied by an English-speaking biking guide from the supplier
  • From 8 guests and up, one mechanic will accompany the group in addition to the biking guide and the vehicle drivers
  • Luggage will be transferred by car at all time. Guest should only prepare a separate bag with necessities to keep separate from their main luggage and easily access their belonging when needed

Meals and Accommodation

  • Accommodation will be booked separately by Easia office, each overnight stop can be done in comfortable, quality hotels.
  • Most toilet on the way will be of a local squat type, but clean
  • Water is provided throughout the trip : every traveller will receive a refill bottle on their bike filled by cold water. The bottle can be refilled during snack breaks or at any time during the itinerary by cold or room temperature water. Note: water is kept cold in 3-5 liters bottles in a cooler. They are refilled from a 20-liter water bottle. The use of plastic bottles is reduced to a minimum
  • Meals mentioned in program text is included in the price. 
    • Breakfast is taken at the hotel – optional breakfast at tea shop is also possible on cyclists’ request. In this case, the team will prepare some fruits to add more balanced options to the choice of local breakfast food
    • Lunch is provided in local restaurant: fried rice, fried noodles, rice and curry, etc.

    Lunch will often be later than 12:00 depending on cyclists’ stamina, but snack breaks will be organized.

    • Snack breaks will be organized approximately every 15/20 kilometers (around 1 hour ride). The choice of snacks vary from one break to another. All snack breaks include:

  • Best time to experience this Module is from October to end of February for the perfect temperature. To avoid May due to temperature and June to August due to heavy rain.

Van = Toyota Hiace, Toyota Super Custom or similar – where suitcases are kept during the trip. The van is used as back up when travelers want to rest and hop in the van. In case of a small group of travelers, seats are reclined and bikes can be stored in the same vehicle as luggage and travelers.

Light Truck = dedicated to mechanics (first aid kit, spare parts) and bikes transport only.

ACTIVE GUIDE (FROM SUPPLIER)

  • This tour is booked with supplier (Myanmar Pure Travel)
  • Operation must make sure with supplier that:
    • Always make sure the supplier has First aid kit 
    • Explain the profile of the Client and expectation of the Travellers clearly to the supplier
    • Cycling guide must be flexible on the spot and the guide must adapt the speed and the length of the trails to the needs of the guests
    • Inform supplier about clients’ previous destination (before the cycling tour) and next destination after the tour
Guide Briefing:
  • Guide must do the briefing everyday before starting cycling – he needs to announce:
    • Cycling rules and sign to follow during the ride
    • That the travellers have to wear the helmet – it is mandatory
    • Distance and duration of the cycling day
    • Where they will go, what they will visit, and points of interest
    • Type of terrain
    • Share some local insight and information about the locations, sites, and culture before departure
    • Should give information about the code of conduct, how to behave on the destination, respecting environment and locals
  • Cycling guide must be flexible on the spot: Adapt the speed and the length of the trails to the needs of the guests
  • Detailed timing: Departure in early morning from hotel in order to have enough time to reach the final destination
  • During the tour, call the restaurant or the person in charge of the picnic set up at least 1 hour before to inform about the arrival time – Important to have a good and warm meal during lunch or dinner
  • For the restaurant out of province and on the remote areas guide must call them before starting the tour to confirm about the food
  • Should have lunch together with the Active guests.
  • Guide must stop and allow the travelers try some local snacks along the way; important to allow travelers experience local life and traditions of the country
  • Should check the climate conditions before the tour to avoid risks (for example, bring rain coats) and be careful during the tour not to put the lives of the guests in danger. At the end of the day, he needs to check all the bikes and help the mechanic to clean and fix them
  • Language – use polite language and adapt the behavior depending on the clients’ character and behavior
  • Shoes – proper shoes – please no sandals or flip flops

Day XX – Arrive in Heho – Ride to Pindaya

Your cycling team will be waiting to greet you at Heho Airport. First, take a short drive away from the airport to a quiet location where you can enjoy a light picnic lunch before trying out your bikes. After a safety briefing, set off for Pindaya on a scenic ride that provides a wonderful introduction to the Shan State. Ride through rolling hills dotted with cabbage fields, chilies and other produce. On the way, take the opportunity to stop and chat to farmers working in the fields, many of whom still wear tribal dress from the Danu or Pa-Oh ethnic groups. Pass through local villages before enjoying a gentle downhill ride into Pindaya, your finishing point for today. Check in to your hotel and relax before heading out to dinner at a local restaurant.

Day XX – Pindaya – Kalaw cycle ride

Before hopping back on your bike, start your morning with a visit to the Buddha-filled Shwe Oo Min Caves. Arriving early before other visitors, enjoy the tranquility while exploring the thousands of Buddha images and hidden cave chambers. Return to your saddle for a door-to-door ride to Kalaw. Today’s landscape is quite similar to yesterday’s, passing through colorful fields and hilltribe villages. You will also ride through pine forests, enjoying breathtaking viewpoints along the way. The final stretch of the ride follows a main road for a short distance before descending to Kalaw, where you stop for the night. After a shower, you can take a short walk around the town’s colonial-era buildings for a glimpse into its past life as a British Hill Station.

Day XX – Kalaw – Nyaung Shwe cycle ride

Today offers another door-to-door ride. After a short double-back on the main road, it’s time to venture off on the road less traveled, passing through villages inhabited by ethnic hilltribes while enjoying fabulous scenery. A whizzing downhill descent takes you to the flatlands near Inle Lake’s edge. You then ride up the western shore, a road with little traffic and gently rolling hills. There’s a stop in a small village for a short walk to witness scenes of authentic local life. Next, pedal into Nyaung Shwe, the gateway town for Inle Lake. Here, you say farewell to your cycling crew to enjoy a relaxing evening at your leisure.

Day XX – Boat and Cycling at Inle Lake

Your day begins with a ride along Inle’s eastern shores. This short ride provides a great insight into the lives of the lake’s residents, who rely on its fertile soil for their livelihoods. Next, board a motorboat to explore the famed floating gardens, as well as traditional handicrafts and pagodas of the lake. You’ll return to town late in the afternoon, saying farewell to your cycling guide and enjoying the evening at your leisure.

Lac Inlé  Tour à vélo dans l’Etat de Shan 4J3N 

Jour XX: Arrivée à Heho  vélo en direction de Pindaya
Votre équipe cycliste vous attendra à votre arrivée à l’aéroport de Heho pour vous accueillir. On vous conduira ensuite non loin de l’aéroport vers une rue tranquille où vous pourrez déguster un déjeuner léger sous forme de pique-nique avant de tester votre vélo. Après une présentation de sécurité, vous commencerez à pédaler vers Pindaya en empruntant une route qui vous offrira un beau paysage et un aperçu pittoresque de l’Etat de Shan. Vous monterez des collines parsemées de champs de choux, de piments et d’autres plantes. Vous vous arrêterez pour discuter avec les fermiers dont certains continuent à porter les vêtements traditionnels des minorités Danu et Pa-Oh. Vous traverserez des villages locaux avant de savourer la route descendant le long de la colline en direction de Pindaya. Vous procèderez au check-in de votre hôtel et prendrez le temps de vous reposer avant de ressortir dîner dans un restaurant local.

Jour XX: Pindaya – Kalaw à vélo 

Vous commencerez la journée par une visite aux grottes de Shwe Oo Min, remplies de milliers statues de Bouddha. Vous arriverez avant les cars de touristes afin de profiter de la tranquillité des lieux et d’explorer les cavités cachées. Vous reprendrez ensuite vos vélos pour rejoindre KalawComme le jour précédent, vous longerez des champs hauts en couleurs et des villages de minorités. Vous traverserez également les forêts de pins et pourrez admirer des paysages à couper le souffle en chemin. Pour la dernière partie du circuit à vélo, vous emprunterez la route principale avant de descendre vers Kalaw. Vous pourrez vous rafraîchir avant de partir faire une balade en ville pour observer les bâtiments datant de l’ère coloniale qui vous donneront un aperçu du passé de cette station de montagne britannique.

Jour XX: Kalaw  Nyaung Shwe à vélo 

Vous enfourcherez à nouveau votre vélo et après être brièvement revenus en arrière en empruntant la route principale, vous vous engagerez sur des routes moins passantes où vous verrez des villages ethniques éparpillés dans un paysage époustouflant. La route descendra ensuite la colline et vous arriverez sur du plat près du Lac Inlé. Vous suivrez ensuite la rive ouest du lac sur une route moins fréquentée avec des petites collines. Vous vous arrêterez dans un petit village pour découvrir la vie authentique des habitants avant de reprendre votre vélo pour rejoindre la ville de Nyaung Shwe, par laquelle on accède au Lac Inlé. Vous quitterez l’équipe cycliste pour profiter librement de la soirée.

Jour XX: Bateau et vélo au Lac Inlé  

La journée commencera par une excursion à vélo le long de la rive orientale du lac Inlé. Vous découvrirez ainsi le mode de vie des résidents du lac qui dépendent de la terre fertile pour gagner leur vie. Vous embarquerez ensuite sur un bateau à moteur pour explorer les jardins flottants, l’artisanat traditionnel ainsi que les pagodes du lac. Vous retournerez en ville en fin d’après-midi et direz au revoir à votre guide à vélo avant de profiter librement de la nuit.

Día XX: Llegada a Heho – Ciclismo hasta Pindaya
Cuando llegue al aeropuerto de Heho, su equipo de ciclismo le estará esperando para darle la bienvenida. Conducirá durante un breve lapso desde el aeropuerto a una calle tranquila, donde disfrutará de un almuerzo ligero en forma de picnic y, posteriormente, probará su bici. Después de una presentación sobre seguridad, comenzará a pedalear hasta Pindaya, un recorrido escénico que ilustra una magnífica representación del estado de Shan. Montará su bici por ondulantes colinas entre campos donde nacen repollos, chiles y otros cultivos. Se detendrá para charlar con los agricultores de los campos, algunos de los cuales aún llevan las vestimentas tradicionales de los grupos étnicos Danu o Pa-Oh. Día XX: Ciclismo de Pindaya a Kalaw 

Comience la mañana con una visita a las cuevas de Shwe Oo Min, repletas de budas. Al llegar antes que los buses turísticos, podrá disfrutar de la tranquilidad mientras explora los miles de imágenes de Buda y las cámaras escondidas de las cuevas. Después, volverá a montar en su bici para un trayecto de puerta a puerta hasta Kalaw. Como el día anterior, pasará por coloridos campos y pueblos de las tribus de las montañas. También pasará a través de bosques de pinos y disfrutará de los impresionantes miradores por el camino. El último tramo del recorrido será por una carretera principal durante un rato corto para después descender hasta Kalaw. Después de una ducha, dará un breve paseo por los edificios coloniales de la ciudad, a fin de ser testigo de la vida pasada de la ciudad como estación de montaña británica.

Día XX: Ciclismo de Kalaw a Nyaung Shwe 

Hoy realizará otro recorrido puerta a puerta. Después de repetir durante un breve periodo de tiempo por la carretera principal, se aventurará por carreteras menos transitadas, pasando por pueblos habitados por tribus étnicas de las montañas y disfrutando del impresionante paisaje. Un veloz descenso le llevará hasta las mesetas cercanas al margen del lago Inle. Posteriormente, pedaleará en ascenso por la costa occidental, una carretera con menos tráfico y agradables colinas onduladas. Se detendrá en un pequeño pueblo para dar un breve paseo y observar la autenticidad de su vida local. Finalmente, pedaleará hasta la ciudad de Nyaung Shwe, la ciudad de acceso al lago Inle. Despídase del grupo de ciclismo y disfrute de una relajada noche a su gusto.

Día XX: Barco y ciclismo en el lago Inle 

Comenzará el día con un trayecto en bici por los márgenes orientales del lago Inle. Este breve paseo le dará una increíble perspectiva sobre las vidas de los residentes del lago, quienes confían en el suelo fértil del lago para ganarse la vida. Posteriormente, montará a bordo de una lancha para explorar los famosos jardines flotantes, artesanías tradicionales y pagodas del lago. Regresará a la ciudad a última hora de la tarde, despidiéndose de su guía ciclista y disfrutando de la noche a su gusto.

Giorno XX – Arrivo a Heho – In bicicletta a Pindaya

I vostri compagni vi aspetteranno all’aeroporto di Heho. Con un breve tragitto in auto dall’aeroporto sarete condotti in una strada tranquilla dove consumerete un leggero pranzo al sacco prima di inforcare le biciclette. Dopo che vi saranno state date tutte le istruzioni di sicurezza,  vi dirigerete verso Pindaya, un percorso molto panoramico che vi rivelerà le meraviglie dello Stato dello Shan. Pedalerete lungo dolci rilievi punteggiati da campi coltivati a cavoli, peperoncini e altri prodotti. Lungo la strada potrete fermarvi a chiacchierare con i contadini che lavorano nei campi, molti dei quali indossano ancora abiti tribali delle etnie Danu o Pa-Oh. Dopo aver attraversato i villaggi locali, una leggera discesa vi condurrà fino a Pindaya, la vostra destinazione. Dopo il check-in in hotel potrete rilassarvi prima della cena in un ristorante locale.

Giorno XX – Pindaya – Escursione in bicicletta a Kalaw

Prima di tornare in sella alla vostra bicicletta, inizierete la mattinata con una visita alle Grotte di Shwe Oo Min. Se riuscirete ad arrivare prima degli altri visitatori, potrete godervi l’atmosfera tranquilla di queste grotte mentre ammirate le migliaia di immagini di Buddha e le caverne nascoste. Riprenderete poi la bicicletta per continuare la vostra escursione condivisa verso Kalaw.  Il paesaggio di oggi è abbastanza simile a quello di ieri, tra campi dagli splendidi colori e villaggi delle tribù delle colline. Attraverserete anche pinete con panorami mozzafiato sulle aree circostanti. L’ultima parte del percorso si svolgerà per un breve tratto su una strada principale prima di scendere verso Kalaw, dove farete sosta per la notte. Dopo una doccia, eccovi pronti per un tuffo nel passato tra gli edifici risalenti all’epoca coloniale, quando la città era una stazione di villeggiatura inglese.

Giorno XX – Kalaw – Nyaung Shwe in bicicletta

Oggi sarete impegnati in un’altra escursione condivisa. Dopo essere tornati per un breve tragitto sulla strada principale, percorrerete strade meno battute, attraversando villaggi abitati da tribù delle colline, immersi in un paesaggio da favola. Dopo una discesa, giungerete alle zone pianeggianti ai margini del Lago Inle. Risalirete poi la costa occidentale imboccando una strada poco trafficata che si inerpica tra rilievi tondeggianti. Avrete la possibilità di fare sosta in un piccolo villaggio per una breve passeggiata dove potrete assistere a scene di autentica vita locale. Sempre pedalando raggiungerete la città di Nyaung Shwe, la porta d’ingresso del Lago Inle. Qui saluterete i vostri compagni per godervi una serata rilassante in assoluta libertà.

Giorno XX – In barca e bicicletta sul Lago Inle

La giornata inizierà con un giro in bicicletta lungo la costa orientale del Lago Inle. Questo breve tragitto vi permetterà di conoscere la vita degli abitanti del lago che devono il loro sostentamento ai fertili terreni circostanti. A bordo di un motoscafo esplorerete i famosi giardini galleggianti, scoprirete l’artigianato tradizionale e le pagode del lago. Nel tardo pomeriggio ritornerete in città, salutando la vostra guida e godendovi una serata in totale libertà.

Tag XX: Ankunft in Heho – Radtour nach Pindaya
Ihre Radfahrgruppe erwartet Sie bereits bei Ihrer Ankunft am Flughafen. Sie machen eine kurze Fahrt vom Flughafen zu einer ruhigen Straße, in der Sie ein leichtes Picknick-Mittagessen genießen werden; anschließend testen Sie Ihr Fahrrad. Nach einer kurzen Sicherheitseinweisung beginnen Sie mit der Radtour nach Pindaya – eine sehenswerte Strecke, die eine großartige Einführung in den Shan-Staat bietet. Sie radeln über sanfte Hügel mit Feldern, auf denen Kohl, Chili und andere Produkte angebaut werden. Sie können auch anhalten, um mit Bauern auf dem Feld zu plaudern; einige von ihnen tragen noch heute traditionelle Kleidung der ethnischen Gruppen der Danu oder Pa-Oh. Tag XX: Pindaya – Radtour nach Kalaw

Sie beginnen den Morgen mit dem Besuch der mit Buddhas gefüllten ShweOo-Min-Höhlen. Da Sie dort vor den Reisebussen ankommen, können Sie die Ruhe genießen, während Sie Tausende von Buddha-Darstellungen und versteckte Höhlenräume erforschen. Im Anschluss begeben Sie sich wieder auf die Fahrräder und machen eine Von-Tür-zu-Tür-Fahrt nach Kalaw.  Wie auch am Vortag, kommen Sie an farbenfrohen Feldern und Bergstamm-Dörfern vorbei. Außerdem passieren Sie Pinienwälder und können die atemberaubenden Aussichtspunkte unterwegs genießen. Der letzte Teil der Strecke führt Sie kurz auf eine Hauptstraße, bevor es bergab nach Kalaw geht. Nachdem Sie geduscht haben, machen Sie einen kurzen Spaziergang durch die Stadt zu Gebäuden aus der Kolonialära, um einen Einblick in das vergangene Leben als britische Bergstation zu erhalten.

Sie machen an diesem Tag eine weitere Von-Tür-zu-Tür-Fahrt. Nachdem Sie das kleine Stück die Hauptstraße zurückgefahren sind, kommen Sie auf weniger bereiste Straßen, passieren Dörfer, in denen ethnische Bergstämme leben, und genießen die erstaunliche Landschaft. Eine rasante Abfahrt bringt Sie in die Ebene nahe des Inle-Sees. Sie radeln dann auf einer wenig befahrenen Straße und über sanfte Hügel die Westküste hinauf. In einem kleinen Dorf legen Sie einen Halt ein und machen einen kurzen Spaziergang; dabei können Sie Szenen aus dem authentischen lokalen Leben sehen. Im Anschluss fahren Sie mit dem Fahrrad in die Stadt NyaungShwe, das Tor zum Inle-See. Verabschieden Sie sich von der Fahrradgruppe und genießen Sie einen entspannten Abend alleine.

Sie starten in den Tag mit einer Radtour entlang der Ostküste des Inle-Sees. Diese kurze Tour gibt Ihnen einen großartigen Einblick in das Leben der Bewohner am See, welche für ihren Lebensunterhalt auf den fruchtbaren Boden des Sees angewiesen sind. Anschließend gehen Sie an Bord eines Motorbootes, um die berühmten schwimmenden Gärten, traditionelles Handwerk und die Pagoden des Sees zu erkunden.
