Day by day description

Day 1: Transfer to Bang Saphan – Koh Talu
Early in the morning, a join-in shuttle will operate a pick-up service from the main touristic areas around the island: Cha Am, Hua Hin, Pranburi – these are the possible pick-up points to be transferred to Bang Saphan District to the pier where a speedboat will be waiting. After approximately 30 minutes on the speedboat, the Koh Talu experience will begin. In a very laid-back atmosphere there will be an introduction by the Koh Talu Islanders before continuing to check in and enjoying lunch with a view over the bay.
The afternoon is dedicated to discovery of the island, with the possibility to do a gentle hike to the best view point where the reward will be nice panoramic views of the surroundings. Around 17:00, it will be time for one of the highlights of the Koh Talu Experience: squid fishing in the ocean at sunset. Onboard a floating raft guests will be able to catch their own squid and eat them, grilled there and then, as delicious natural appetizers before heading back to the island for dinner and relaxation in a peaceful atmosphere.

Day 2: Koh Talu Discovery
The second day will start with the second highlight of Koh Talu: a raft cruise to Chong Talu, a big rock formation which is easily recognizable thanks to the large natural hole that gave the name to the island. The surroundings: rock, sea, coral, and colorful underwater fauna, make the snorkeling experience here unique. After lunch, the afternoon will be at leisure to enjoy the beach entertainment, continue snorkeling or kayaking (possible right from the beach), or to even try some of the other sea activities proposed by the resort. At 17:00, there will be a visit to the Hawkbill sea Turtle Nursery which will provide the opportunity to learn more about the sea Turtle conservation project implemented by the owner of the island. The day will end with a seafood barbecue set (available for 2 nights stay only) – an ideal way to spend the last evening on the island.

Day 3: Koh Talu – Bang Saphan (Back to the mainland)
The speedboat transfer back to the mainland is scheduled for 14:30, allowing plenty of time to enjoy Koh Talu (beach, snorkeling, kayaking, relaxing) right up until lunchtime.
At 15:00, the speedboat will arrive at the pier and let travelers continue their holiday adventure to their next destination.

Selling points

  • An eco-responsible experience with a nice story behind: (reconversion of Khun Preeda a former fisherman, the Coral Conversation project, the story behind the Sea Turtle Nursery)
  • An ideal escape (quickly accessible by boat) to experience in family, or with a group of active friends, or even honeymooners
  • A destination which for the moment is not well known on western markets.
  • The private island concept (no other hotel to spoil the surroundings)
  • The possible combination with Hua Hin (3 hours drive north)

Activities

A lot of optional activities available and possible (with supplement) – Please consult sales department for quotation

  • Thai massage
  • Sailing Introduction (Catamaran) – 3 persons)
  • Squid fishing (Sun set cruise) (Private) – Max. 8 Persons
  • Karaoke computer
  • Live Music & Theme decoration
  • Scuba diving (Trial dive)
  • Scuba diving (Certify dive)

Extensions

  • Package also available in 2D1N only.
  • Additional extra night possible (with surcharge)

Pros

  • Ideal to propose for sustainable active leisure program: typically fit Easia active: laidback atmosphere, slow travel, nice story to tell
  • A package always proposed in Full Board with joined speedboat included, snorkeling gear, Kayaking, Hiking
  • The relative proximity with Hua Hin Cha Am, Pranburi: especially as Koh Talu is able to provide the join transfer
  • For Slow travel possibility to propose a train transfer directly from Bangkok to Bang Saphan Yai
  • Possibility to propose a continuation also from Bang Saphan Yai to Surat Thani or Chumphon (making combination with Koh Tao, Samui, Phangan beach extension, really convenient, but of course ideal as an entrance opportunity to Khao Sok.
  • A possibility to decline the module in 2D1N only or even add extra night with plenty of additional activities

  • Surprisingly not so advertised on the western market (maybe because the location is at first look not convenient
  • Two bays (Pearl bay (smaller but very picturesque) cheaper or Big Bay (more recent and slightly higher end cottages) closer to the beach bar, the pool and the turtle nursery.)
  • Chalet are quite spacious and often allow quadruple occupancy.

  • A nice and helpful staff. And a family run atmosphere. Islanders are often settled here since 5 years. But there is technically no village on the island. Except the houses of the staff and their families.

Cons

  • Could be still be expensive  (well known for Thai Domestic Market could be fully booked quickly on peak week end)
  • Avoid weekend if your guests want to avoid groups of Thai and domestic tourist
  • Joined Pick Up Time: Joined Transfer from Hua Hin 06:30: could be considered long especially if children onboard.
  • Private pick up time has too coordinate with the Join speedboat (one morning departure only 10:00) schedule to minimize the transportation price. If the private transfer isn’t matching with Joinspeedboat, the private boat charter will increase the price. Even though it s possible
  • Departure from the island: Join speedboat is only at 14:30. Arriving at 15:00 to the mainland. Difficult to propose an international flight from Bangkok behind, unless really paying attention to propose a flight after 22:00. 6 hours drive between Bang Saphan and Bangkok.
  • Train connection to Surat or Chumphon are not all the time convenient: and if based on joined speedboat schedule, will impose a day train. (check with agent if clients are ok: the ride is very nice and scenic though.)

  • Service very friendly and helpful but don’t sell the experience to high end customers.
  • The food is thai: they tried to do an effort for each meal, but the pattern is often repetitive: thai set menu, seafood, one soup (change each meal): no western options. But it is good.
  • Some chalets could get a bit of maintenance (especially woodfrom some roof) but overall is very good , spacious, cleano be sold as a rustic but comfortable experience.
  • Due to the fact that not all the viewpoint are accessible or not recommended to go alone, it s a bit pity for guests to have to check with staff when they want to go to do the hike.
  • Cannot control if guests will fall on the same time than big groups.

  • This experience is easier to sell on a GIT basis.
    ⇒ package offer includes

Very nice property (Modern contemporary design style) full windowed rooms  (french management). Awesome view on the sea and islands. Ideal for people who will take the Lompraya ferry in Chumphon the next day to Koh Tao.

  • For hiking: there are 3 different view point but for 2 of them path is not well maintained (as few people request the hike) so it is not recommended to go alone. It is strongly recommended to check with the staff first before trying to go alone in the jungle (especially after rain time). The island is quite safe but an accident could easily occur.
  • During snorkeling tour the boatmen and the crew will take pictures of the guests underwater and on the floating raft. making it downloadable through a QR code but also on Koh Talu facebook page. Not professional pictures but good memories of the experience for the guests. It is important to mention it to agent and guests.\

  • A scuba diving shop is settled on the island. (scuba diving and lessons are always with extracharge)

  • No ATM on the island – No shops execept a mini mart with more souvenirs than important things.

More than just a nice and charming private island accommodation, Koh Talu has a story to tell. These stories are those of Khun Preeda, a former fisherman, who owned 20 trawlers until he realized how blast fishing or certain fishing gear was harmful for the environment and the sea.
When he gave up fishing, he wanted to give something back to nature and started to fight against blast fishing and started an experiment involving fastening broken pieces of coral to a live coral reef. Slowly, the offshoots of coral started to spread.
In 1999, Khun Preeda decided to go further and, when he found out that Bang Saphan had been designated as a conservation area, he decided to buy a piece of land with the money from the sale of his trawlers, which was to be used for a conservation project. In 2010, Khun Preeda spotted turtle tracks along the beach while walking on his island and followed them until he found 163 eggs. In order to protect them, he decided to create a shelter for the eggs… This is how the Koh Talu Island Resort and Turtle hatchery and nursery started.
Koh Talu is 590 acres in size and has three bays, Big Bay, Pearl Bay and Thien Bay.
You will have the good fortune to see what Khun Preeda and, more recently, his son, who manages the resort since he took over the island, have achieved. This is a great way to enjoy, respect and be a part of the story.

Day 1: Bang Saphan – Koh Talu
Pack your bags, today, from Bang Saphan Pier, and the speedboat will take you on an exciting tropical experience on the little islet of Koh Talu.
After a half hour cruise, you will reach the resort to check in before enjoying a tasty lunch.
You will then start your afternoon with a hike through nature to the highest view point on the island to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views.
After that, in the late afternoon light of the ocean, you will leave for an exciting moment on the floating raft to go and catch your “alternative appetizer” before dinner: fresh squid that you will fish yourself during a sunset cruise before putting it on the grill for a short period. A tasty, healthy and natural snack before getting back to The Terrace restaurant for dinner.
Overnight stay in Koh Talu Island Resort

Meals Included: lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Koh Talu Island Resort

Distance for the hike: 300 meters hike with a slight slope. Elevation gain: 68 meters between sea-level and cliff height – Difficulty Level 0 – ascent in the jungle and greenery along a path with roots and rocks sometimes.

This rock is obviously a paradise for marine life that you can observe while snorkeling around after having learnt about the underwater species you might encounter.
You will be back at the resort for lunch.
The afternoon will be free for enjoying leisure activities and it is up to you to choose how you will occupy it. Why not hike back to the highest viewpoint by another trail, go kayaking or go sailing on a catamaran? You could also learn about what has become one of the key projects of Koh Talu, by visiting hawkbill turtle nursery.
Dinner will be served at The Terrace Restaurant with a seafood barbecue.

Comidas incluidas: almuerzo y cena
