LAOS – Luang Prabang – Ancient Lao Pottery Making

French version video is available here

Location: Luang Prabang, Laos

Ban Chan village’s families have been specializing in pottery making for over 400 years. At first, the pots were used to ferment fish and to hold water but now families produce a large range of items, from beautifully decorated planters to terracotta roof tiles, making them almost entirely by hand using the same techniques which have been passed down through the centuries. After reaching the village, which is across the river from Luang Prabang, the visit provides a behind-the-scenes look at these ancient techniques and the skilled pottery makers help the travelers to get hands-on with the clay to create their personalized item. The tour finishes with traditional Lao food cooked by a local family with locally sourced fresh ingredients.
