VIETNAM – HOI AN – The Japanese Bridge Renovation & Upgrading

With the pressure of population density development in Hoi An ancient town and the number of tourists in the old town increasing rapidly in recent years, the sightseeing infrastructure in the old town is overloaded and degraded.

On December 28, 2022, the People’s Committee of Hoi An city, in association with the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (JICA), held a groundbreaking ceremony to restore the relics of Hoi An Bridge Pagoda, which is the iconic tourist attraction of the old town.

  • The project has an investment capital of 20.3 billion VND, half of which is funded by the People’s Committee of Hoi An City with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
  • The project will focus on critical items, including renovating the building’s foundation, timber frame, roof, and electrical system to promote a 3D digitized monument model.
  • The project is expected to be completed in 360 days – By the end of 2023

The finished work will create a new and more beautiful impression of HoiAn’s image. The bridge pagoda is a typical cultural symbol of HoiAn – Japan, and is the main attraction in the journey to visit Hoi An ancient town. The renovation and upgrading of the Covered Bridge during this time will affect the image of Hoi An to visitors to Hoi An in 2023.

Please kindly update this info with our guests in hopes of their sharing and understanding when visiting Hoi An during the period.
