Empty Angkor: Quiet temple scenes captured by our in-house videographer

Revered gems of Southeast Asia and in particular, Cambodia, the Angkor temples – remains of the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to 15th century – are globally renowned temples and include the largest religious building in the world.

Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, the Angkor Archaeological Park attracted an ever-increasing number of visitors over the decades, to finally see its reputation suffer from mass-tourism in recent years.

Busy as they could get, the temples have always been a dream for incentive travel, with incredible opportunities for exciting team building activities, historical tours and unique gala dinners. Today, with the greater part of the global population facing lockdown or stringent travel restrictions, the world’s most famous sites, including the Angkor temples, are looking quite different. They’re making a noticeable return to their natural state, abandoned by humanity and left to nature.

Now virtually deserted, our adventurous in-house videographer, Roman Giger, took this once-in-a-life-time opportunity to wander around the Angkor Archaeological Complex to capture the magical and unusually quiet atmosphere.
