Day 1: Muang Hiem – Ban Son Khoua
After a drive from Muang Hiem by minivan along a curvy road through gorgeous, mountainous landscapes, you will arrive at the Khmu village Ban Son Khoua. After becoming more informed about the village’s daily life, animist traditions, and village spirits, you will embark on a journey on the Nam Nern River by long-tail boat. After you settle into your bamboo huts close to the river, the village residents will offer you a delicious lunch. After lunch, the park staff will brief you about the on-the-ground efforts to protect tigers and their prey. Then, you will continue your journey upriver by boat. Then, after a short walk, the local guide, a skilled hunter and tracker, will point out evidence of wildlife, such as tracks or scat at a salt lick. Finally, you will share dinner around a campfire while the guides will tell Khmu folktales and stories about dragons, wildlife, and ghosts. After dark, you will depart for the night spots, floating down the river with the boat engines off so as not to scare the wildlife. You can spot animals like the Sambar deer, otters, barking deer, various species of civets, the loris, porcupines, and owls.

Day 2: Nam Et Park – Ban Son Koua – National Park
Early in the morning, local guides will take you around the jungle, teaching you about medicinal plants and explaining the site’s history, which was once a major settlement during the Secret War. After breakfast, the boats will float back through the core zone at a relaxing pace with engines off while the guides point out wildlife along the way. Lunchtime will be spent at the camp before venturing back into the beauty of the natural park. In the afternoon, travelers will have free time to relax and swim in the river. The guides will prepare a delicious dinner by firelight, and everyone will tuck in for an early night in a comfortable tented camp along the river in the Total Protected Zone of the national park.

Day 3 – National Park – Ban Son Khoua
Today, you will awaken before sunrise and enjoy a morning tea or coffee with breakfast. With the first light, we will begin drifting silently down the river with the engines switched off for around 2-3 hours to try our luck to spot Sambar deer, Otters, Red Muntjac, and various bird species. Enjoy the morning calm. After around 2 hours, we will arrive at the main Nam Nern River camp to enjoy a second breakfast. After breakfast, the boats will return to the village.

Notes

• Duration: the tour starts in Ban Son Koua at 09:30 on Day 1 and finishes in the same village around 10:00-11:00 on Day 2.
• Some animals may be complex for our guests to see at first sight. The guides (1 per boat) use their headlamp to spot wildlife. If they see something, they will give a clear sign.
• Weather can be both scorching during the daytime and very cold at night. It is recommended to bring clothes for both extremes.
  Advise guests to bring the following:
  • Small bag (big bag can be left in the village)
  • Light rain jacket, warm jacket
  • Sun hat, long pants, walking shoes, T-shirt, and shorts for bathing

Jour 1 : Muang Hiem – Ban Son Khoua
Après avoir quitté Muang Hiem en minibus sur une route sinueuse traversant de magnifiques paysages montagneux, vous arriverez au village khmer de Ban Son Khoua. Après avoir été mieux informé sur la vie quotidienne du village, ses traditions animistes et les esprits du village, vous embarquerez pour un voyage sur la rivière Nam Nern en bateau à longue queue. Après vous être installés dans vos huttes en bambou près de la rivière, les habitants du village vous offriront un délicieux déjeuner. Après le déjeuner, le personnel du parc vous informera sur les efforts déployés sur le terrain pour protéger les tigres et leurs proies. Ensuite, vous continuerez votre voyage en amont de la rivière en bateau. Après une courte marche, le guide local, chasseur et pisteur émérite, vous indiquera des indices de la présence d’animaux sauvages, tels que des traces ou des excréments à un endroit salé. Enfin, vous dînerez autour d’un feu de camp, tandis que les guides vous raconteront des contes populaires khmers et des histoires sur les dragons, la faune et les fantômes. Après le petit-déjeuner, les bateaux retraverseront la zone centrale à un rythme détendu, moteurs éteints, tandis que les guides observeront la faune et la flore en cours de route. L’heure du déjeuner sera passée au camp, avant de s’aventurer à nouveau dans la beauté du parc naturel. Dans l’après-midi, les voyageurs auront du temps libre pour se détendre et se baigner dans la rivière. Les guides prépareront un succulent dîner à la lueur du feu, et tout le monde se couchera tôt dans un confortable camp de tentes le long de la rivière, dans la zone de protection totale du parc national.

Aujourd’hui, vous vous réveillerez avant le lever du soleil et apprécierez un thé ou un café matinal avec le petit-déjeuner. Aux premières lueurs du jour, nous commencerons à dériver silencieusement le long de la rivière, moteurs éteints, pendant environ 2 à 3 heures, pour tenter d’apercevoir des cerfs sambars, des loutres, des muntjacs rouges et diverses espèces d’oiseaux. Profitez du calme matinal. Après environ 2 heures, nous arriverons au camp principal de la rivière Nam Nern où nous pourrons prendre un deuxième petit-déjeuner. Après le petit-déjeuner, les bateaux retourneront au village.

Die Tour beginnt in Ban Son Koua um 9:30 Uhr am ersten Tag und endet im selben Dorf gegen 10:00 oder 11:00 Uhr am zweiten Tag.

Es ist sehr selten, Tiger zu sehen, da sie sich normalerweise nicht in die Nähe des Flusses begeben.

Tag 2: Nam Et Park – Ban Son Koua – Nationalpark
Frühmorgens nehmen Sie einheimische Führer mit auf einen Spaziergang durch den Dschungel, bei dem Sie etwas über Heilpflanzen und die Geschichte des Ortes erfahren, der einst eine wichtige Siedlung während des Geheimen Krieges war. Nach dem Frühstück gleiten die Boote mit ausgeschalteten Motoren in entspanntem Tempo durch die Kernzone, während die Führer Sie auf die Tierwelt entlang des Weges aufmerksam machen. Das Mittagessen wird wieder im Camp eingenommen, bevor es zurück in die Schönheit des Naturparks geht. Am Nachmittag haben die Reisenden Zeit zur freien Verfügung, um sich zu entspannen und im Fluss zu schwimmen. Die Reiseleiter bereiten ein köstliches Abendessen im Schein des Feuers zu, und alle schlafen früh in einem komfortablen Zeltcamp am Fluss in der Total Protected Zone des Nationalparks.

Tag 3 – Nationalpark – Ban Son Khoua
Heute erwachen Sie vor Sonnenaufgang und genießen einen Morgentee oder Kaffee zum Frühstück. Mit dem ersten Licht beginnen wir, uns mit ausgeschalteten Motoren etwa 2-3 Stunden lang lautlos flussabwärts treiben zu lassen, um unser Glück zu versuchen, Sambarhirsche, Otter, Muntjac und verschiedene Vogelarten zu entdecken. Genießen Sie die morgendliche Ruhe. Nach etwa 2 Stunden erreichen wir das Hauptcamp am Nam Nern Fluss, wo wir ein zweites Frühstück genießen können. Nach dem Frühstück kehren die Boote zum Dorf zurück.
