Day 1: Siem Reap – Phnom Kulen
In the morning, travel from Siem Reap to Phnom Kulen, the largest forested area in the Siem Reap province. After only 5 kilometers of driving, you will already be in the heart of the Cambodian countryside, passing through charming villages, endless rice fields, and sugar palm trees. Welcome to the wild!
Upon arriving at the National Park checkpoint, located at the foot of Kulen Mountain, you’ll meet the local ranger who will accompany you during the hike. After a short briefing, head out into the jungle, first coming upon The River of 1000 Lingas. Here, it’s hard not to marvel at the carvings located inside the river, dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, not to mention the golden Reclining Buddha, situated at Preah Ang Thom. Then embark on a single trail plunging into the deep forest and indulge in the nature. Your hike ends at the Phnom Kulen Waterfall, where you can refresh yourself with a nice swim. Lunch nearby the waterfall. After lunch, continue to walk until the homestay where you’ll spend the night.

Day 2: Phnom Kulen – Siem Reap
Wake up early to enjoy the fresh, tranquil atmosphere of the local village. After savoring a delicious local breakfast at your homestay, you will embark on your second day of trekking by venturing to the Phnom Kulen plateau.
Today, transfer by vehicle (around 15 minutes) to the starting point, then begin your hike along a diverse mix of trails, which leads you to a hidden temple that was built in the 9th century and some cashew nuts plantations. Continue the hike to explore other beautiful archaeological sites along the trail. You will make a stop at the impressive Phnom Tbal to see stone carvings representing Shiva, Vishnu, and other Hindu gods. Also in the area is Prasat Rong Chen which is a small pyramid temple. Here, you’ll stand on the site where Jayavarman II declared himself King of the Khmer Empire.
The highlight is surely the famous Srah Damrei site, housing a holy Elephant statue and shrine carved in sandstone, representing the mountain’s guardian. This site holds great significance for Cambodian people, who travel from all over the country to visit and pray. You will enjoy a picnic lunch and a short rest. Afterward, continue to a charming a pagoda and end your walk when you reach the village. Transfer back to Siem Reap.

Le matin, vous partez de Siem Reap pour Phnom Kulen, la plus grande zone forestière de la province de Siem Reap. Embarquez ensuite sur un sentier qui s’enfonce dans la forêt et laissez-vous imprégner par la nature. Réveillez-vous tôt pour profiter de l’atmosphère fraîche et tranquille du village. Après avoir savouré un délicieux petit-déjeuner local dans votre famille d’accueil, vous entamerez votre deuxième jour de randonnée en vous aventurant sur le plateau de Phnom Kulen.

Aujourd’hui, vous serez transféré en véhicule (15 minutes environ) jusqu’au point de départ, puis vous commencerez votre randonnée le long d’un mélange varié de sentiers, qui vous mènera à un temple caché construit au 9ème siècle et à quelques plantations de noix de cajou. Continuez la randonnée pour explorer d’autres étonnants sites archéologiques le long du sentier. Vous vous arrêterez à l’impressionnant Phnom Tbal pour voir des sculptures en pierre représentant Shiva, Vishnu et d’autres dieux hindous. Le Prasat Rong Chen, un petit temple pyramidal, se trouve également dans la région. Vous vous trouvez sur le site où Jayavarman II s’est proclamé roi de l’empire khmer.

Le moment fort est sans aucun doute le célèbre site de Srah Damrei, qui présente une statue d’éléphant sacré et un sanctuaire sculpté dans le grès, représentant le gardien de la montagne. Arrivati al checkpoint del Parco Nazionale ai piedi del monte Kulen, incontrerete il ranger che vi accompagnerà nel trekking. Dopo un breve briefing, vi addentrerete nella giungla, iniziando a scoprire il Fiume dei 1000 Lingas. Qui è difficile non ammirare le sculture all’interno del fiume, dedicate al dio indù Shiva, per non parlare del Buddha reclinato d’oro di Preah Ang Thom. Imbarcatevi poi su un sentiero che si addentra nella foresta e lasciatevi avvolgere dalla natura. L’escursione termina alla cascata di Phnom Kulen, dove potrete rinfrescarvi con una nuotata. Giorno 2: Phnom Kulen – Siem Reap
Svegliatevi presto per godervi l’atmosfera fresca e tranquilla del villaggio. Dopo aver gustato una deliziosa colazione locale con la vostra famiglia ospitante, inizierete il vostro secondo giorno di trekking avventurandovi sull’altopiano di Phnom Kulen.

Oggi sarete trasferiti con un veicolo (circa 15 minuti) al punto di partenza, quindi inizierete la vostra escursione lungo un variegato mix di sentieri, che vi porterà a un tempio nascosto costruito nel IX secolo e ad alcune piantagioni di anacardi. Continuate l’escursione per esplorare altri incredibili siti archeologici lungo il percorso. Jahrhundert gebaut wurde, und zu einigen Cashew-Nuss-Plantagen führt. Setzen Sie die Wanderung fort, um weitere schöne archäologische Stätten entlang des Weges zu erkunden.
