Description

Golden Silk Pheach is a non-governmental organization producing ecological and sustainable premium-quality silk products. The organization was founded in 2002 with the hope of reviving traditional silk textile uses and its techniques. More than just an educational workshop during which travelers learn about the production process from silkworm to a final piece, this place is a perfect example of the Khmer heritage of art and culture.

From the farming of silkworms to the final design, everything is made according to the traditional way, one precise step at a time. Golden Silk Pheach provides living quarters for disadvantaged Khmers, who live within 12 kilometers of the preservation workshop. Most of them have worked with Golden Silk since the very beginning.

Each piece of textile comes specifically from the farm and its workshop. Pieces are handmade and take about 5 months to 1 year to produce; a long and meticulous process, which makes each piece unique. Here the silk becomes art. Most of their creations are not for sale, but used for exhibitions all around the world to showcase this special and beautiful facet of Cambodian heritage.

During the visit, led by the founder of Golden Silk, and former Director of the National Center of Cambodian Silk, participants will discover the step-by-step production process.
