Description
Inspired by the artistry and craftsmanship of the Lanna culture, a kingdom that once ruled northern Thailand as well as Laos north, Myanmar’s Shan State, and Yunnan, China, the Raya Heritage blends the simple charm and character of the Lanna past with discreet, personalized service and state-of-the-art guest comforts.
Thirty-eight spacious suites, set in idyllic gardens, overlook the tranquil Ping River from low-impact, three-story buildings designed by Thai architect Boonlert Hemvijitraphan. Terracotta tiles, hipped roof gables, vintage hardwood construction, and mulberry-paper screens evoke traditional northern Thai designs, while high ceilings and a color palette of whites and creams give the interiors a bright, contemporary twist. The suites’ generous outdoor river-facing verandas harken back to when villagers gathered on their front porches in the evening, chatting and sharing the day’s stories.
Designer Vichada Sitakalin decked the resort with beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, artifacts, and accessories sourced from and often created by local craftspeople using traditional techniques.
Their serene spa focuses on regional healing techniques applied in private treatment rooms. Signature treatments include the Bamboo Massage, in which therapists massage tired muscles with lightly heated sections of bamboo to significant effect, and the Au-Mann Thai Burmese Massage, a classic, oil-free northern Thai traditional massage that originated in Myanmar.
