The local authorities in Siem Reap recently announced that as of 1 January 2020, the Beng Melea Temple will only be available to visit when included in a 1-day, 3-day or 7-day Angkor Pass. Previously, the entrance ticket to the Beng Melea Temple was sold independently from the Angkor Complex visit (i.e. it was not included in any Angkor Pass) and charged at $5.
The relatively secluded temple is absolutely worth a visit. Situated some 68 kilometers from Siem Reap, it was once nearly swallowed by the jungle and now reveals a mysterious history, with intricate carvings (such as that of the Churning of the Ocean of Milk), a well-preserved library and ancient baray (reservoir). Significantly, the temple site is also at the center of an ancient Angkorian road connecting Angkor Thom and Preah Khan (Prasat Bakan).
