The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre (TAEC) seeks to showcase the 50 unique ethnic groups of Laos interactively and engagingly while empowering local artisans by selling their handicrafts and giving them half of the proceeds. TAEC was founded in 2006 to promote the appreciation and proliferation of ethnic and cultural heritage and livelihoods in Laos based on traditional textile handicraft skills. This sustainable enterprise offers guided tours of the museum space, organizes regular workshops, and features a fairtrade textile and craft shop at the museum and a separate TAEC Boutique a short walk away.

Traditional Arts Ethnology Center (Visit Only)
The TAEC museum is made up of two main exhibition rooms. In the first room you will be able to learn about the different ethnic groups through a series of displays that feature information, photographs, ethnic clothing, and household objects. The second room is dedicated to presenting the ethnic groups’ wedding customs and ceremonies. If you wish, you can sit down and enjoy a short film to complement your cultural learning experience.

Enjoy a 30-minute tour of the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center’s exhibitions by trained museum tour guides. Enjoy a 30-minute tour of the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center’s exhibitions. On this short tour you will gain an insight into Laos’ ethnic cultures, their traditions, and customs directly from an expert in the field. Your tour will be led either by Thongkhoun, a Luang Prabang-native who worked at the Luang Prabang National Museum for 10 years, Tara Gujadhur, an American with a background in anthropology and sustainable tourism development.

Hmong Embroidery Workshop
In this workshop you will learn how to make a Hmong embroidered handicraft with the guidance of an ethnic Hmong artisan. As you work, your guide will translate and provide you with information on the Hmong people and their customs. After you have finished your artisan creation, you will get it to take home with you as a souvenir. During your visit to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center you will also enjoy a 30-minute exhibition tour which will provide you with an insight into Laos’ ethnic cultures, their traditions, and customs, as well as a delicious ethnic lunch in the café.

Ethnic Diversity and Cultural Change in Laos Seminar
In this fascinating 60-minute presentation and question-and-answer session you will learn about Laos’ different ethnic communities, their history, and their cultural practices, including their livelihoods and handicrafts. Gain insight into the life of people in an ethnic village and enjoy the opportunity to see unique artefacts from the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center’s collection that are not accessible to the general public. The seminars are led by one of the two TAEC directors, either Thongkhoun, a Luang Prabang-native who worked at the Luang Prabang National Museum for 10 years, or Tara Gujadhur, an expert in anthropology and sustainable tourism.

Ethnic Lunch at the TAEC Café

Try some of Laos’ delicious ethnic cuisines!  The Ethnic Sampler menu includes Tai Dam chicken stew and a typical Hmong green vegetable soup, typical in ethnic kitchens in northern Laos. For vegetarians there is a tasty Khmu wild mushroom stew, as well as a vegetarian version of the classic Tai Lue tomato and bean dip.

Le musée du TAEC est composé de deux salles d’expositions principales. Déjeuner ethnique au TAEC Café

Essayez quelques-unes des délicieuses cuisines ethniques du Laos !  Le menu ethnique comprend un ragoût de poulet Tai Dam et une soupe de légumes verts Hmong, typique des cuisines ethniques du nord du Laos. Pour les végétariens, il existe un savoureux ragoût de champignons sauvages khmu, ainsi qu’une version végétarienne du classique trempette Tai Lue aux tomates et haricots.

El museo TAEC se compone de dos salas de exposiciones principales. Almuerzo étnico en el Café TAEC

Pruebe algunas de las deliciosas cocinas étnicas de Laos.  El menú de muestra étnica incluye un guiso de pollo Tai Dam y una típica sopa de verduras verdes Hmong, típica en las cocinas étnicas del norte de Laos. Para los vegetarianos hay un sabroso guiso de setas Khmu, así como una versión vegetariana de la clásica salsa de tomate y judías Tai Lue.

Centro etnologico delle arti tradizionali (solo visita)

Il TAEC è un museo composto da due maggiori esposizioni, suddivise in due stanze. La prima mette in risalto nello specifico i diversi gruppi etnici, attraverso una serie svariata di documenti: da informazioni a fotografie, da abiti tradizionali a oggetti della vita quotidiana. La seconda stanza è dedicata a presentare la tradizione e le cerimonie legate all’occasione del matrimonio secondo le diverse etnie. Un cortometraggio informativo di circa 20 minuti viene proiettato in una piccola stanza all’interno del museo.

Laboratorio di tessitura di bambù Khmu

In questo laboratorio imparerete a realizzare un manufatto in bambù intrecciato Khmu con la guida di un artigiano di etnia Khmu! Seminario Diversità etnica e cambiamento culturale in Laos

In questa affascinante presentazione di 60 minuti e nella sessione di domande e risposte imparerete a conoscere le diverse comunità etniche del Laos, la loro storia e le loro pratiche culturali, compresi i mezzi di sussistenza e l’artigianato. Potrete conoscere la vita in un villaggio etnico e vedere manufatti unici della collezione del Centro di etnologia e arti tradizionali, non accessibili al pubblico. I seminari sono guidati da uno dei due fondatori/direttori del TAEC, Thongkhoun, nativo di Luang Prabang e che ha lavorato per 10 anni al Museo Nazionale di Luang Prabang, o Tara Gujadhur, con un background in antropologia e turismo sostenibile.

Pranzo etnico al TAEC Café

Provate alcune delle deliziose cucine etniche del Laos!  Il menu etnico comprende lo stufato di pollo Tai Dam e la tipica zuppa di verdure verdi Hmong, tipica delle cucine etniche del nord del Laos. Per i vegetariani c’è un gustoso stufato di funghi selvatici Khmu e una versione vegetariana della classica salsa di pomodori e fagioli Tai Lue.

Ethnologiezentrum für traditionelle Künste (nur Besuch)

Das TAEC-Museum besteht aus zwei Hauptausstellungsräumen. Der erste Raum beleuchtet ethnische Gruppen anhand einer Reihe von Informationstafeln, Fotos, ethnischer Kleidung und Haushaltsgegenständen. Der zweite Raum präsentiert Hochzeitstrachten und Zeremonien ethnischer Gruppen. In einem weiteren kleinen Raum können Sie einen interessanten 20-minütigen Film schauen.

Geführte Tour

Genießen Sie eine 30-minütige Führung durch die Ausstellungen des Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center durch ausgebildete Museumsführer. Auf dieser kurzen Tour erhalten Sie einen Einblick in die ethnischen Kulturen von Laos, ihre Traditionen und Bräuche. Nutzen Sie die Gelegenheit, mehr über die verschiedenen ethnischen Gruppen in Laos zu erfahren und Fragen zum Leben auf dem Land zu stellen.

Führung des Direktors

Genießen Sie eine 30-minütige Führung durch die Ausstellungen des Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center. Auf dieser kurzen Tour erhalten Sie einen Einblick in die ethnischen Kulturen von Laos, ihre Traditionen und Bräuche und können von einem der Gestalter der Museumsausstellungen lernen. Geführt werden Sie von Thongkhoun, einem Einheimischen aus Luang Prabang, der 10 Jahre lang im Nationalmuseum von Luang Prabang gearbeitet hat, von Tara Gujadhur, einer Amerikanerin mit einem Hintergrund in Anthropologie und nachhaltiger Tourismusentwicklung.

Hmong-Stickerei-Workshop

In diesem Workshop lernen Sie unter Anleitung eines ethnischen Hmong-Kunsthandwerkers, wie man eine Hmong-Stickerei herstellt! Während Sie arbeiten, wird Ihr Führer übersetzen und Hintergrundinformationen über das Handwerk und das Volk geben. Nachdem Sie Ihre Kreation fertiggestellt haben, können Sie sie als Souvenir mitnehmen. Während Ihres Besuchs im Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center können Sie auch an einer 30-minütigen Ausstellungstour teilnehmen, die Ihnen einen Einblick in die ethnischen Kulturen von Laos, ihre Traditionen und Bräuche gibt, sowie an einem köstlichen ethnischen Mittagessen im Café.

In dieser faszinierenden 60-minütigen Präsentation mit anschließender Fragerunde erfahren Sie mehr über die verschiedenen ethnischen Gemeinschaften in Laos, ihre Geschichte und ihre kulturellen Praktiken, einschließlich ihres Lebensunterhalts und ihres Handwerks. Ethnisches Mittagessen im TAEC Café

Probieren Sie einige der köstlichen ethnischen Küchen von Laos!  Das ethnische Sampler-Menü umfasst Tai-Dam-Hühnereintopf und eine typische grüne Gemüsesuppe der Hmong, die in den ethnischen Küchen von Nordlaos üblich ist. Für Vegetarier gibt es einen schmackhaften Khmu-Wildpilz-Eintopf sowie eine vegetarische Version des klassischen Tai Lue-Tomaten-Bohnen-Dips.
