Learn about the world’s biggest land mammals in a lush jungle environment and local efforts in Laos to protect them. Upon arrival at Mandalao Elephant Conservation, travelers receive an in-depth briefing about elephant behavior and communication, before preparing tasty afternoon snacks for their future new friends. Each person is given special trekking boots before boarding the local boat to cross the Nahm Khan river to meet the elephants. An expert from Mandalao will provide an introduction to the elephants and their mahouts across the river, and after becoming a bit more familiar with each other, it will be time to give the beautiful creatures their snacks. The mahouts will demonstrate how they interact with the animals as they enjoy a bath together in the river. After getting clean, cool, and nourished, everyone will take a relaxing walk together through the jungle, and along a stream, before saying goodbye, and catching the boat back across the river to Mandalao. This experience is rounded off with local snacks on a scenic deck overlooking the river.
