The guided tour offers a chance to discover the beauty and the secrets of Lao textiles – a local guide explains each step of the silk weaving and natural dye processes and the artisans demonstrate the techniques they use to create batik and bamboo handicrafts. For those who enjoy a more hands-on learning experience an optional weaving or dying class can be added to this visit. Weaving Class
Ock Pop Tok Living Craft Center is the perfect place to visit if you are interested in traditional Lao handicrafts. Here you will enjoy a hands-on experience which will leave you with a deeper understanding of the efforts that go into creating handmade textiles. You will start the class with an introduction to silks, dyeing and weaving techniques. Then, head to your loom where you will learn the art of weaving with assistance from a guide and a weaver. At the end of the weaving class you will be able to take your 2-colored woven place mat with Lao motifs with you as a souvenir!

You will have the chance to learn everything you ever wanted to know about silkworms and the different types of silk before moving on to create 3 natural dyes using plants freshly picked from the garden. At the end of the dye class you will be able to take your dyed silk skeins, cotton napkins or scarf with you as a souvenir!
