CAMBODIA – Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway opens to public on one-month trial

The $2-billion-worth Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway will be put on trial use for the whole month of October. Big step for transportation in Cambodia

To disseminate and raise public awareness about the use of this expressway, the first of its kind in Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the investment company have decided to allow the public to use the expressway free of charge for one month, from Oct. 1 to 31, 2022, read the ministry’s announcement.

All vehicles with a maximum speed of over 70 kilometers per hour and all motorcycles of 500cc and over are permitted to be on this toll road.

The 187-kilometer-long and 24.5-meter-wide Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, invested by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), began in March 2019.

The toll road connects Phnom Penh to the deep-sea port Sihanoukville of Preah Sihanouk province, crossing Kandal, Kampong Speu, and Koh Kong provinces.

With two lanes for traffic in each direction plus an emergency lane on each side and paved with asphalt concrete, the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway will enable vehicles to reach their destination in about two hours instead of the four or five hours it used to take to cover the distance on National Road 4, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
